Polearm Butts Have Tracers For Instant Hits Upon Release

  • What’s up with that?

Sorry for the fairly low quality. Still, I think it clearly shows that first contact made in facehug range does come from the pommel of the weapon.

here’s a couple pics of the tracers for both the Zweihander and Bardiche

here’s the same weapons with the lookdown overhead

doesn’t look much different besides the Bardiche overhead starting the release a little further back than the Zweih
then I took a closer peek at the tracers and found this little guy

it might be a bit hard to see but the black tracers represent the very bottom part of the stick, and we can clearly see them overlapping with the red
what this means is the bottom of the stick is hitting in front of the Van, then the hurty part finally comes down for what should be the actual hit

most importantly we can see that the hilt is definitely allowing the Bardiche to hit faster than it should while in close quarters

this is a closeup of the Zweih’s lookdown overhead for comparison

notice how the black tracers don’t overlap the red

I can only assume this is intentional
but it doesn’t seem very fair

  • I remember someone in current beta show us that handle now have green tracer for easier parry

… but how does changing the color of the tracers making it easier to parry?
oh well that sure is prettier and easier to see

  • If you think again, added tracer on the weapon handle mean we can parry handle as well

  • @EricFong:

… you mean we have to parry it, or it’ll hit us

Yeah, especially the facehug when you used to turn 90 degree to parry.

  • Where the black tracer ends (in the last picture you link) is about where the tracer for the spear butt seems to start (for slash). It makes me feel dirty when i kill people with it. Most often it hits/kills MAA that start out in front of you and try to leap past your side and hit, but instead they get the butt of the spear in the groin.

  • Lol I told you about the Bradiche BB and that its not the blade that gets you.
The reaction time for that is pretty thin.
They need to fix the animation or make it so that it does less damage than the blade.

  • You can already parry the handle. The main issue is that with most weapons there is at least a small amount of weapon travel during release before it connects, while the bardiche connects instantly forcing you to parry quite early during the windup.

  • Whoa. That’s wonky as heck, my guy.

Isn’t the idea to block as late as possible? You know, so that you can distinguish a real attack from a feint… ;)

  • Mein gott, this is pretty appalling. This shit needs to get fixed.

    it’s really not that bad
the Van would have to be hugging to do it, and it would only shave off like .1 from the release

  • You can use this to your advantage.

If for some reason you are tricked into parrying early (with a feint perhaps) as a last ditch attempt you can run right up to where this butt tracer is and your too-early parry can catch it just as your parry ends. This has saved my life a few times.

That’s the point. Trying to block the bardiche late is pretty much impossible because the release starts inside your body. Any other weapon, there is at least a small window before the release connects.

If the vanguard does lookdown overhead then pulls his weapon up, he can hit either within .01 of release or he can hit you with other end (the actual blade) at end of release, which I believe is .65, so even looking down and missing the butt of the weapon leaves him really doing almost 2 attacks with different time intervals.

Sure you can do this with other weapons, but look at the hand position on bardiche, it sticks out much much farther than anything besides other polearms and a couple other heavy weapons. You can easily hit with the handle area for a .5 windup instant hit, or miss on purpose with the butt and hit them when their parry falls since now it takes more than another half a second to float through the air.

  • I’ve run up behind a bardiche vanguard, about to rape him, when he launches an overhead at some guy in front of him, and I get decapitated while standing behind him. Very annoying.

lol that has nothing to do with this though
    every weapon can do that
