Chivalry, network lag and Spotify in your local network
Recently I discovered having Spotify active on any computer of my local network, even idle, influenced my lag hugely, causing periodic spikes of 300+ ping. Even setting top priority for all packets from my computer (chivalry ports especially) in the QOS settings of my router didn’t help with this.
Turns out Spotify also acts as a P2P client, periodically causing so much incoming connections that package priority is useless. There are no P2P settings inside Spotify, so there’s no way to curb the amount of incoming connections there.
This can be ameliorated by going into Windows Advanced Firewall settings of the computer running Spotify, and changing the connection rules for the Spotify process.
