Blood pools?

I’ve seen videos put up on youtube by players like hexen which show big ol’ pools of blood. I’ve got my blood decal setting maxed, but I can’t see anything of the sort. Texture quality is also maxed. Also, in dark forest, the cart does not show the corpses for me.

What is the deal here?

I’m pretty sure the corpses are under Detail Quality, not sure about the blood pools.
