Improvements for Vanguard and MAA

  • We already have knights with big swords, we do not need vanguards with big swords. No one uses the rather awesome polearms instead opting for those cheap, cheap swords. Worse, they do not even know how to use them effectively, so it just makes the vanguard class look bad. Nerf those swords, buff those spears, and Vanguard would be far better.

And javelins should be available to the MAA. MAA should be like Achilles, able to run up with a javelin, stab, throw it, and then draw a short sword…you know intense. If any of you have ever seen the movie “Troy”, imagine something like that. WAY cooler than current MAA.

  • Spears are pretty damaging. The first spear can two hit vanguards.

And people use the polearms a lot.

Vanguards are mainly supposed to be an overwhelming force. So they have the big swords. Their swords are bigger than the knight swords. They are meant to deal out a lot of damage.

And javelins do a hell of a lot of damage. Giving them to an MAA wouldn’t be a good idea.

  • Vanguards dont make any sense anyway. Its basicly a 11th century knights gear. The actual knight has 13th century gear.A vanguard with the zwihander makes as much sense as a redcoat with an ak74. Give the vanguard a shield for fks sake. By the time full plate was the norm for a wealthy knight the shield wasnt used . Lastly dump that piss poor charge attack.

I don’t know where you learned history but the vanguards armour is pretty much right for the 13th century. He wouldn’t be wearing that helmet though unless he found it from some dead guy. A full helm like that is very expensive. Other wise a coat of mail with a surcoat was the norm for most wealthy infantrymen.

Full plate armour wasn’t really used untill the 15th century. The agathian knight only has plate arms and legs. Plated boots were common and whole plated arms were around they weren’t used often. Neither knight in the game is wearing full plate armour. The mason knight has even less plating.

Vanguard like soldiers were more common in the 13th century than a soldier like the MAA. Big polearms like the bardiche and billhook. And two handed swords were not uncommon. They also used some giant swords on a stick type weapons, don’t know what they are called. Vanguards make a lot of sense historically.

Though western spearman usually had a shield unless they were pikemen. And pikemen in the 13th century were increasing in their numbers and usefulness. Until the halberd came along. A modified billhook that was lengthened and designed to chop the head of the spear off so the enemy pikemen the halberd was early 14th century. Invented that is not widely use until later.

And the charge attack can be very useful off you know how to use it. Against large groups of occupied units or anyone who isn’t looking at you.
