Can't join my own server

  • Hey there,

I have spent the last few days trying to figure out how to setup a Chivalry server. But I have now gotten to a point where I am completely stuck. I cannot join my own server, and neither can a friend of mine. Still, I seem to get no errors while starting up the server, and I can see my server both in the Steam server list and in game list.

Earlier, I saw that there were actually 2 players online on my server on http://www.game-monitor.com, and in the Steam server list, it said that 3-4 players was online. I have no idea what is going on or how to fix it.

I have tried many solutions to see if something was wrong with my client, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case. I can join any other server completely fine, but my own is stuck at “Please wait while the game loads…” forever until it says that connection to the server has been lost.

I have portforwarded the ports TCP/UDP: 7777, 7778 and 27015, and there is something listening on the ports when I check them, so I don’t think that ports being blocked is the problem.

Here is the log file from the server:

If you look at the end of the log, it says that the game is preparing to exit. Is this normal? If not, then how do I fix it?

  • Got the same Problem.

Exit in the end is normal.

It is pretty common and there is another thread about it.
This problem appeared high frequently since the free C:MW weekend.

And dont try to much, their are just some classes you can configure (if u do too much you will digg out a lot of bugs :D), the [AOC.GAME], [Configuration], [Engine.AccessControl] and the game classes itself at the end of the config.

  • So this error which makes servers unjoinable, started happening after the Free Weekend?
When I look at page 8 and 9, it looks like the guy called “Damned” has got a similar problem(the same?). And that was in February.
    http://www.chivalrythegame.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=4515

He didn’t find a solution back then. But I really hope there is one now!

  • I’m not too tech savvy when it comes to the server stuff but I’ll try my best to help.

Did you try pressing the ~ button and open your server ip?

I do what I can to help others. Like I’ve always said, everyone needs to play this game. :D

  • @Keith:

Did you try pressing the ~ button and open your server ip?

Yes, I have tried with my IP, IP and port, Domain name etc…. But nothing happens. I have even tried joining from the Steam Server list, but then it just opens the game’s main menu and nothing more happens.
I have searched and searched for a solution on Google and I think it’s safe to say that I have tried everything tied to common mistakes/normal solutions. I believe that this has something to do with the server.
I’m not really sure if there have actually been any players logged in at all, (that may have been a bug, no idea!) but that is what steam and that website tells me. It may be a client problem, but my friend couldn’t join either, so no clue.
If it makes any difference, I’m running this on Ubuntu/Wine, but the server seems to be starting up just normally and all the ports have something listening on them. When someone tries to join, these are the messages that appear in the server console:

    ! fixme:winsock:WS_setsockopt IP_DONTFRAGMENT is silently ignored!

According to some other thread I found, these messages are normal. But I’m beginning to wonder if the “Failed to bind to interface” message is. Can anyone with a working server can confirm this?

  • Actually, I just asked one of my other friends to try to join, and he could.

At first he could walk around, but then suddenly he was disconnected.
He could join again, but then his camera is stuck and he couldn’t spawn.

After a server restart, he could join again but once again lost connection.
