Chivalry is Constantly Crashing (CCC)
-
Chivalry is constantly crashing. Sometimes the crash is a blue screen of death; sometimes it is a udk.exe error. I have over 500 hours logged in Chivalry, I love the game, but the frequency of crashes (averaging every 20 minutes) is making the game unplayable.
I have tried every known fix.
-Clean installing video driver.
-Updating every part of Windows (including DirectX).
-Disabling all non-essential background programs.
-Reinstalling Steam.
-Reinstalling Chivalry (including game cache integrity validation).
-Deleting the Chivalry documents folder.
-Using steam launch options including set resolutions and -borderless.
-Launching Chivalry directly from the UDK launch exe.
-Sacrificing an archer. My video card is a GTX 570 and my processor is an Intel Core i5-3570K @ 3.4GHz.
This is a UDK.exe error log I recieved when the game crashed without taking Windows with it:

Normally when you see BEX, it has to do with the software not getting along with 64 bit OS. Try this then:
Right click on the icon My Computer. Go to properties and click on advanced system settings. Under the performance title, click settings. Click Data Execution Prevention and click “turn on DEP for all programs and services”, afterwards hit add, find the UDK.exe file for Chivalry and add it to the list.
-
Thank you for responding, Keith.
I tried your advice, and am still experiencing the same problem.

Try this:
Right click on the UDK.exe file and press Run as Administrator. If that doesn’t work, right click on the UDK.exe, go to properties go to compatibility and set compatibility to Windows XP S3.
Tell me how that works out for you.
-
Actually the DEP solution wasn’t working exactly as you suggested. Whenever I tried to add UDK to the exception list it would say:
“This program must run with data execution protection (DEP) enabled.
You cannot turn off DEP for this program.”EDIT: Posted at the same time you did. Will try your next suggested fix.
-
As for the message. Do this:
1. Type cmd in the start search menu, right-click on it and select Run as Administrator.
2. Once the command prompt is open, you can now disable the DEP by entering the following command line:
bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOff
3. And to enable it back:
bcdedit.exe /set nx AlwaysOn

Still crashing :( Different kind of error this time though

It seems you’re missing MSVCR100.dll and for some odd reason the UDK.exe file.
Go online and find the .dll file, after that you add it to the system 32 folder, reinstall Chivalry and give it a shot.
-
Msvcr100.dll was still in the system32. I reinstalled .NET framework and DirectX (because I couldn’t replace msvcr100.dll directly) and reinstalled Chivalry.
Crashing persists.
-
I found a possible solution:
Go into NVidia control panel and add your game.exe and make it “use NVidia GPU” to resolve this issue. And also try this, go to NVidia control panel and check if game.exe has to instances. If there are two instances, set both to use your specific GPU instead of automatic.
-
Used the NVidia control panel to make the UDK.exe manually use the GTX 570 gpu.
Crashing persists.
-
Right click on the game in your Steam library. Click “Properties”. Click “Set Launch Options”. Add:
-resx=1920 -resy=1080
Replace the numbers with whatever resolution you want. If that doesn’t work, add
-borderless -resx=1920 -resy=1080
and once again replace the numbers with whatever resolution you want.
Try that to get it started, and maybe it won’t crash.
-
I’ve tried that before, but I’ll try it again to make sure.

Do you have any other programs running? I’d suggest closing them, even firewalls or anything just to make sure.

Try closing Trend Micro and anything else and try running the game.
-
With all non-essential processes off it has still crashed several times.
The only process still running that might be causing problems is BitDefender, which I can’t completely shut down all of its processes without a full uninstall (which would take a ton of time). But I’ve disabled all of its features (updates, virus protection, firewall, etc) and it’s sitting at a single 3mb process in “game mode”.
-
Alright. Sometimes a program like Micro Trend or any other antivirus software could cause a problem. There’s been known that different programs cause issues.
Do you have a firewall on?
Do this:
Delete the all temporary files from your computer by donning this
Click Start > Run > type %temp% > OK > click Edit > Select All > Delete.
-
Tried clearing the temp. Still crashing.
-
I’m running out of solutions.
Go to steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\Binaries\Win32 and delete the Win32 folder then verify your game files/cache.
