FPS problems since patch



  • Since patch I have been having trouble getting chivalry to run above 10-20 fps. Prepatch I was getting 60 constant, with max everything. Now with everything turned down I’m still only getting 10-20 fps. I’ve looked through topics on here and tried various things, this game is the only one that is having a problem running. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Are you sure your computer is using you 670. It may be using the integrated graphics instead.



  • I honestly don’t know how to check that. But considering it runs higher impact games no problem, could it still be that?



  • If you had low FPS then lowered your graphics settings, and it remained low. IT most likely isn’t GPU related.

    In console type this:

    STAT UNIT

    And tell us the numbers on a 25+ player server in a populated area.

    Also include your engine.ini and systemwhatever.ini



  • Couldn’t find the other ones, but the Stat ones are:

    Frame: Fluctuates between 35-37
    Game: Fluctuates between 35-45
    Draw: 23-24
    GPU: 30-33

    It seems to be running slightly smoother after the patch today, but I still chunk on large servers. Never had this problem before.

  • Ok so scale lowend helped a bit. Do the following:
    In your UDKsystemsettings.ini

    You have plenty of RAM so it should be OK.

    Also, make sure your Antivirus has Chivalry directory disabled, or at the very least udk.exe
    Or temporally disable it when you can.

    Make sure you turn off anything that is running the background that you don’t need. Things like Skype, antivirus, firefox, whatever.

    After you fire up chivalry, hit ctrl-alt-del and go to processes, right click on chivalry(or UDK.exe) and go to details, right click on UDK.exe and make it run at High Priority (the exact method to get there depends on your O/S).

    In the end you are going to have trouble running this game at 60fps due to your CPU. Hopefully doing the above will help enough.



  • That helped, definitely, I’m running at 35 fps now. But that’s still a huge drop from pre-patch. I guess I just need to get used to it. I never had a problem running this game, or any other game, pre the huge patch. Appreciate the help, Toll.



  • Hmm, it would have defiantly been good to see hard numbers pre-patch. Sometimes the human mind remembers things incorrectly.
    I don’t think your the only person to have an FPS hit. It would be good to know if TB did anything to increase CPU usage, like adding more sound cues/decals and whatnot. Hmm maybe it has something to do with them ‘fixiing’ the stickies?



  • Possibly. Although my laptop has been showing signs of hardware malfunctions, and it’s only 4 months old. Maybe it’s time to send it in. I can still run higher CPU intensive games on higher settings, with higher fps. Crysis 3 runs on High with 48-50 fps, and I know thats more intensive than Chivalry. Fml.



  • Are you sure your computer is using you 670. It may be using the integrated graphics instead.

    You really need to look into this. This would explain your high game thread and GPU thread, particularly if the game ran fine before.

    Virtu MVP2.0, it may have came bundled with your laptop.

    After doing a little reading, I’m pretty sure your 670M isn’t being used and your CPU is using its Intel HD crap to play the game. This will make your FPS pretty crap.

    I’m not very savy in Laptop stuffs so you may have to use your Google-Fu and find the answer on how to make sure Chivalry is using the 670M. It isn’t an uncommon problem that sometimes the Laptops discrete GPU isn’t being used when it should.

    So you have hope my friend!

  • Yeah is his fram rates are pretty similar to those with an intel 4000.

    Even my damn computer one day decided to use the intel integrated graphics for no good reason. And its a damn intel 2500 so its really bad.

    Never had a problem when graphics were integrated into the motherboard.

    AMD CPUs (APUs as they call them) don’t seem to have this problem.



  • Hooray, This fellow has fixed it.

    The game was indeed using his HD4000 evil CPU integrated graphics over his discrete card.
