New Game modes?



  • Hi, I’ve just finished making a new game mode for my mod map pack “Nomad King”. It’s King of the Hill but the “hill” moves to one of 4 locations randomly every 30 seconds.

    What new game modes would you like to see? Myself and other modders might be able to make them reality!

  • I don’t know how to describe it so I’ll just use an example from another game.

    Conquest from the Battlefield series

    Some form of siege mode. Laying siege to a castle, attackers need to get in while defenders have to keep them out. Gameplay is more orientated around “break the castle” style where attackers are given catapults, rams, sapper trenches or tunnels, siege towers, scaling ladders, grappling hooks and they have to organise themselves to attack the defenders who get multiple defence mechanisms as well such as boiling oil, rocks to throw over ramparts, rolling logs off ramparts, wall catapults of their own, trebuchets etc.

    EDIT: I was wondering what Lost woods: Unicycle + Accordion had in relation to this :P

I’m not sure if I could give players the choice of where to spawn, so it might just have to be a the most recent captured point. It would be a variation on Team Death Match I presume.

    Yeah this is my ultimate goal, I’ve currently got climbable ladders working but not much of the other stuff. Do you think this should be a new game mode or Team Objective? The problem with TO is that there’s only one option per stage. It would be good if there were multiple ways to complete an objective.
    For example how do you win a siege: kill all defenders, kill a king, take the town square/throne room?

    Another idea: Butcher mode.
    There is one extreme badass good weapon called Butcher Axe(100% damage, 75% speed, 75% reach or somewhat) that on the beginning of the round is spawned at the random place on the map. Player have to pick up this weapon and kill others with it. Only kills with this weapon gives you points, kills with other weapon don’t counts to the score. Players have to get specifed score(for example 30 kill with this super weapon).
    There are no teams, but I think player with this badass weapon will be versus all others. And everyone will try to get this weapon and don’t let someone else pick it up.
    But do not mark the position of the butcher weapon or the position of player holding it. Players should try to find it. It will be too easy to kill butcher if everyone knows his position.

    My second idea: Hold the flag.
    There is capture-the-flag-mode. My idea is something similar, but there is only one flag. Teams have to hold this flag for the specifed time. Something like king-of-the hill, but item you have to hold is mobile, because it is flag that travels with the player holding it.

    This is probably not that hard to do.

    Well I might make the “hills” closer to each other and the make the time between moves longer but the gamemode worked well in Halo 3. It stops one team from dominating too much and keeps the game interesting. The running around is what makes it fun!

    Nope, you’re 100% correct! However it’s a lot easier said than done; I still have to do the programming to make it move only when there are people around it etc. What I really wanted to do is animate slaves who pull the tower forward and the defenders can kill the slaves to stop the tower moving.

    It starts off with a stage which is a standard TDM round. Winner of that moves on to attack stage 1. Then on to stage 2. Stage 3 is to kill the king. Stage 1 is to breach the town, stage 2 is to breach the castle. If the attacking teams fails, they are pushed back a stage. If they get pushed back to stage 0, another TDM round happens. It will continue to push back and forth until there is a winner. There are 2 time limits. One is per round for the defenders to win a stage. If the game time runs out, an LTS round will begin, but with both of the kings spawned. Sort of a tiebreaker.



  • Hold the mountain pass
    The Argonites try to hold the thin mountain pass for 12 minutes whilst masons press them towards a cliff edge.
    -Masonites get a buff to their respawn rate for the duration of the game (to simulate superior numbers.)
    -If masons push the argonites back to the cliff edge then they win (argonites go bye-byes down the cliff).
    -If the argonites hold the mountain pass for 12minutes without being pushed back then they win (reinforcements arrive; masons are surrounded, trapped, and over run)

    I’d prefer more simple siege. One team attacks the castle, one team defends it. Attackers have to get the flag that is on the centre of castle countryard or better - in the main room in the castle. No king. There are two maps with kill the king. King don’t have to be in every castle. But maybe king is good idea? Oh, killing the king bores me, but it’s only me. I have an idea for siege: Every player can respawn only 3 times. If noone in the team can respawn, this team loses. Limited reinforcements ftw!

    Yeah, siege towers, catapults(two on the castle countryard for use for defenders and near attackers spawn for use for attackers ), ballistas (on the walls for use for defenders and near attackers spawn for use for attackers), ladders to get on the walls, ram, hot oil and the gate that can be opened from the tower above this gate.

    I’d like the siege like in M&B Warband, but with better stuff(hot oil, catapults, ballistas, ram etc.).

    Another idea: Invasion mode
    All players are in one team. They are holding something(village, tower, fort, small castle) and they are defending themselves from big waves of bots. They have to stand alive as long as they can. Every wave is bigger than previous. Dead players can respawn after 3 waves since they died.

  • Please make a siege game mode, it would be amazing and complete the game. Make a separate game mode where it is basically castle defense with ladders, catapults etc. The objective could be to say take the throne.

    A game mode where you have to hold something for time sounds good too.

  • An escort the VIP game.

    One team is escort (offense) and one team is trying to stop you (defense). The game would run along a track-like map very much like the dark Forrest, but with more “track” room (a “longer map”).

    Offense has a certain number of VIP respawns (so the VIP can be like… I dunno, general or important soldier, etc.) to reach the goal.

    Each “objective point” along the track will respawn the VIP and team there (respawn at forward progress), but the number of respawns does not reset for VIP.

    The maps would be the most important here, as they need plenty of places to ambush etc. Actual objectives (other than escort this guy) would be determined by what’s on the map. For example, maybe there’s a palisade fortification blocking you way that the enemy is defending, and a catapult off to one side you can use to destroy it. Stuff like that.



  • Sea battle.

    Just a normal lts/to/tdm but with special map. Open sea and two ships on it. One belongs to the Agathians and one belongs to the Masons. There are some ballistas on each ship. Of coure there is the steering vane on the ship to drive it. So one player will control the ship course. Also each ship should have the ram on its front.

    Objective is to destroy enemy ship by ram or ballistas or to capture the ship by killing the other team in the abordage.
