Flail



  • YAY another Flail topic!

    At the moment the Flails are decent enough but the Buckler isn’t due to the Flails just-above-average damage, slow attack speed and very short range.

    While the Buckler is not useless when used with a sword with a knight or any weapon with the MAA. When using the Flail with the Buckler it becomes useless vs Knights and Vanguards (particularly Vanguards), this is because of the range and general heaviness of their weapons. You can’t get close enough to hit them without being forced to block or backing out of the attack. If you block their heavy weapons it pushes you out of your weapons range so you’re back at square one.

    My answer to this is very simple, reskin the Knights Buckler so it’s metal and reduce the stagger/flinch when you block hits. Plausible, easy and a bit more balanced.



  • Yes. And reduce the stamina drain on this godforsaken shield, I don’t want to take a rest and a cup o’ Earl Grey, hot, after being hit like 3-4 times.

    Also make the Knights buckler shield a bit bigger, the one he uses right now is way too small and consumes way too much stamina, not to talk about the massive knockback of Vanguard’s attacks that always, ALWAYS knock you out of range.

    Winning with a Heavy Flail against a half-decent Brandistock user is almost impossible.



  • The buckler really sucks up a lot of stamina for some reason. It’s supposed to be a quick and light shield, you shouldn’t get tired instantly for blocking attacks with it.

    Flail knight should also get the option to use a heater shield. Everyone wants this but that means the animation artist has to redo the animations for the flail, since now he’s animated to use a buckler, which is held differently than other shields.

    +1 The buckler should be a speedy offensive/defensive weapon. It doesn’t have a lot of coverage but it should almost parry.

    I hear ya. I love using the flail, it is so unique… Stamina for this thing is just so terrible.



  • I agree, shields need some work, buckler in particular. I am cautiously optimistic about including some changes to them in patch 3, but we’ll have to wait and see.

    Wouldn’t that make the skill of parrying a bit redundant then?



  • nah, you still have the shield so you at least have the advantage of not being feinted… so if you hold it up you’re still vulnerable to kicks. If you decide to “parry” with the shield, then you can counter off it. I say give the bucker the option to block or parry, if you block… then you cannot counter attack. If you parry or just tap the shield up which you can basically do now… then you can counter attack. So i’m thinking a counter attack timer would have to be placed on the shield hold like anything under .1 is a parry, and anything above is a block no counter available. Something like that. Idk if .1 is good that’s just an example.

    even then there’s an issue with the buckler, moreso with archers. I found out htat anytime you go against a vanguard, especially with anything fast you can barely even get a counter hit or anything off with a javelin. They can keep range and keep hitting you with attacks over and over and theres almost nothing you can do about it. They can step back out of your range and throw another attack each time, then if one more person comes along it’s all over. Even if no one else comes along, that one vanguard with a long sword can just keep hitting you until you’re dead. Even if you had more stamina, it would just take longer but the same effect will happen, lol. Sux man.



  • Well that’s the problem caused by the ridiculous knockback vanguard attacks do atm.

    As I said, Brandistock is SHIT to fight with Flails because you get knocked out of range every single, shitty fucking time.
    Vanguard in general is disgusting to fight. :P

  • Knockback is not the only thing to worry about, nor is it the reason I win so much.
