Team Objective Ideas?

  • Hi, I’m working on a Team Objective map and need some help with ideas for the final objective.

At the moment the map starts with the teams at either end of a bridge with a castle behind the defenders. The 1st objective is for the attackers (Mason) to hold the bridge for 90 seconds like King of the hill mode. The 2nd objective is for Mason to take the castle walls and push a lever that lowers the drawbridge.

I need a final objective and happy to hear ideas.

I could just go with King but that’s been done on a couple of maps now. I thought about having Mason have to hold the town square for a certain length of time but again that’s not very interesting when that’s pretty much the same as the first objective.

    Idea? Suggestions?

  • inside the castle’ have like 2nd and 3rd levels/floors… and have catapults. Then have an open royal area where you have to kill whoever is inside with the catapults/seige weapons (perhaps some ballistae too.)

Or have like a stoneshill thing where inside the castle there is a king or some high knight or something to kill.

  • Idea 1 - Go down to their dungeons and free a certain prisoner. This prisoner is a general of the Masons who was captured a week earlier. A big bearded fella dressed in rags, when freed, the person with the most kills on the Mason team gets to control him. You hand him an axe or something, and then run up to reunite with your brothers. Together, you kill all the remaining Agathians in the castle and take it under your control. Kind of like a TDM with fewer resources and an agressive “King” on one side. Alternatively, escort him all the way out from the castle to the bridge, where a boat is now waiting.

Idea 2 - Charge into the castle and kick in the doors to the great dining hall. Apparently, there was some kind of summit with all the influential people in Old Agatha and Malric was not invited. So the Masons invited themselves in, and spoiled the party. Once in there, kill all the noblemen you can find! Feels a bit of an anti-climatic ending, though. Maybe a Kill the King scenario, as well…?

Idea 3 - Masons have found out that the Great Cross of Old Agatha is being kept temporarily in this castle for the time being. Once the Knights of Agatha restores the order to these lands, it will be returned to the Capitol and placed in the Tower of Argon to show everyone that you don’t mess with nobility. The Mason Order has other plans for the cross though, and that is melting it down to fund the war effort and/or distribute gold to peasants as a means of gaining popularity. Once inside the castle, you run for the treasure chamber, or whatever room they deemed the most secure to store such an item. You get there, and it’s time to roll it out on a cart. Although, you might take a different route out.

  • Moar pezint slaying. :P

  • @Pebble:

    Moar pezint slaying. :P

Yeah! Inhabitants of a nearby village sought refuge inside the castle. When you get inside, kill EVERYONE! Around 100 peasants + all the nobles and of course the pesky Agathian Knights!

  • Perhaps the Masons have to destroy all the support structures holding up an Agathan King statue? Would be very interesting, and could make for a unique objective.

  • Like your good idea to use KOTH with bridge, you can use LTS when mansons are in castle

  • To expand/alter SavageBeatings’s first idea. I love his idea of freeing a mason general. My take on it is this:
Highest score player controls him and they have to do some sort of objective that involves escaping the castle OR just keeping him alive. Sort of like the king.

  • Team objective TIPs!!!

Tip 1: When in cluster fuck USE SWINGS just swing wildly and hope for the best.

Tip 2: If you see a player and are not sure about the colors he is wearing KILL him anyways.

Tip 3: When the two teams finally meet each other after running for miles, run at the enemy jumping and swingingly wildly.

Tip 4: Kick your allies in the back for morale support. (it really gets them going)

Tip 5: If there’s any maps where you can jump off a cliff DO IT. (You get extra points)

All the above tips are from professional players that have been playing the game for hours with these simple tips you 2 can become a professional veteran.

Umm thanks for the ‘tips’ :)

Not sure how that actually helps with the OP though.

Yeah, that was my thinking. Wouldn’t want the Mason general to be AI controlled, now would we?

Highest score player at that time, since it’s the last objective, gets to control him, and from there you escape with him from the castle OR kill all the remaining Agathians and seize the castle.

  • Thanks for the ideas everyone :D

At the moment I’m just going to go with Kill the King because it’s easy to code (I think). Once the map is finished and SDK is released I might make a better objective but at the moment I’m not going to work too hard at something when I have no idea when the SDK will be released and if anyone will be playing by then.
