Very Very Early thoughts on the game (Not a review!)



  • Firstly, I applaud TB for finding a new colour palette :p. The game is so much more colourful compared to MW and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

    Some minor things that I feel that /need/ to be addressed ASAP and I even took the liberty of screenshots for some :)

    Obviously it goes without saying server stability needs to be sorted along with some net coding for blocking and such. It seems much easier to bypass a block.

    Animations do need clearing up on both 1st and 3rd persons. It’s annoying seeing the Ninja run with the Bo staff behind him but then switch to 1st and see the same animation for the quarterstaff :/
    On the same note, TB, you really need to stop cutting corners. I’ve identified numerous sound clips from MW, animations for most weapons were also copied (excluding Knight, since that IS the MW class here) Viking sounds almost identical to MAA and maybe a few Vanguard sound clips.

    The Sparta map (I haven’t had time to memorise map names) has a huge floor problem near one of the spawns. Its a small corner garden near the Samurai Spawn (if playing Samurai vs Spartan) that you can fall through the grass and then proced further into said garden and through the entire map.

    EDIT:
    The Viking vs Knight map has a tendency to insta kill people that go near the bridges edge while it is raised, when lowered it is fine…but the amount of corpses that are here because of a glitch is too damn high! http://steamcommunity.com/id/Roxas814/screenshot/540722836590992963

    The same map has an Imbalance issue in that the Knights can simply stack up on the Bridge and use crossbows at the rangeless Vikings. Bit of a balance issue.

    Autobalancing…I’m not sure if this is Server side or Client side but either way, this needs to be forced :/

    A personal gripe here. I understand the Wakashi is a Samurai Weapon…but it feels REALLY wrong not to give it, or the Tanto to the Ninja who only has the Ninjato.     I can understand the claws and Bo staff and the Mini Hook. But a lack of a dagger for a ninja? Seems…weird.

    Now I had some fun with this cannon. But…why is it there? No-one is going to go over and use it in a fight (minus me) and it’s just…questionable.

    Things need to be made clearer on the weapon selection. I had no idea if I could throw the shield if I was a Viking, or the middle mouse button served as the spear throwing for a Spartan. I don’t see why the training wasn’t available for people, like myself want to find out about the classes available.

    Apart from the issues, I’m having a blast :) It’s good Solid Chivalry fun that we all know and love. But a number of issues are really glaring. So I thought I’d put together this post.

    And yes. I am /WELL/ aware that this is a BETA Unlike some people I don’t moan and complain about that fact. I want to see this game, and Medievil Warfare succeed.

    Also can we get some Team Objective in here please? Mindless slaughter is fun, but most people I know play TO exclusively on MW. You got some great set up here. Samurai must kill the Ninja leader due to Treason, Knights must protect their King against the Spartans. The list of possible objectives are endless with this multiverse set up!

  • I would like to point out that the Vanguard voices for some of the characters seem to be just a placeholder until the actual voices are finished. It’s still in beta after all.

    I also do mention that I said it was a beta and totally understand it.
    As I said, a small list of things that could do with some fixing up.

    The melee netcode really needs some work, especially with the new volume of fast weaponry. Ghost swings, ghost swings everywhere.

    …Do you miss where I say I know it’s a beta? Bugs are going to be about, and the only way to stamp them out is by bringing them to light. Jeez I feel like the only one actually doing what the beta is for…

    Best tick off everything where you said they were cutting corners. All placeholders.

    Also best to take out the obvious. Stuff they already know about.

I want the game to be great and the only way to do that is by pointing out some bits and bobs, even if its obvious :p

    as I’ve said too, this game is far more polished than when chiv was in beta so even though it is a beta it really doesn’t feel like one apart from the obvious statements as you and the devs have said are placeholders.

    keep giving it, the more that post their feedback the more likelihood of the game we all want :p



  • Feedback is of course welcome. But if something in this Beta looks broken or unfinished, it most likely is. Like how the viking has vanguard voices as well as some new viking voices, because Loin isn’t finished with them all yet. That one was the most obvious one, but the killer bridge and tposing are stuff that shouldn’t exist in the final product either. There’s also stuff like hovering/misplaced items on maps and a few visable (and invisable) holes in the ground and walls. Seems like every map update, something new is misaligned haha.

    And just to be on-topic with a lil bug report, although I’m sure people are aware of it, the knight likes to tpose if you are strafing whilst in your charge animation.

    By all means, point out any bugs you see. The more feedback the players give, the better the overall product will be.

    I think Lemon is mixing up feedback and complaints. Obviously there will be things unfinished or not working properly but that’s where the feedback comes in, so we can do our part and show what needs to be done. :)
