Stuff I like and dislike



  • This is ongoing, as I play and see stuff, I type it down to remember.

    Disclaimer: It’s basically a stream of conscience. I just type it as I see it, no censorship. Just what crosses my mind as I play (and usally die, thus finding time to type).

    Like:
    Faster health regen (atleast feels faster)
    New Scoreboard looks nice
    Pirate Flintlock’s Pistol quite fun
    Ninja has the best dickjoke ever, also, the other taunts are fucking amazing
    dual wield is pretty cool
    No slashing on spears
    Ninja in general
    Viking’s shield and weapons throw

    • thunder-like sound of flintlock weapons
    • game didn’t crash once
    • look of viking

    Dislike:

    • hit detection very disappointing*
    • Performance atrocious
    • can’t jump and kick, thusly leading to boring shieldturtling
    • Melee feels very floaty and weightless,
    • samurai boring, feels way too easy for its effectiveness
    • can’t type after match, but people can run around
    • hitboxes very off, thus making slashes overpowered.*
    • all servers are pretty laggy (both high pings, rubberbanding etc.)
    • shield stun seems not to work*
    • maps are buggy as hell
    • Attackanimations really choppy and hard to recognize as such*
    • Teamcolors: white and black look exactly the same
    • People can change their characters color to match ANOTHER teams color. Very irritating
    • Sabre (still) ugly as sin; Cutlass looks great, though
    • No autoteambalance on team vs team vs team vs team etc.
    • People warprun all over the place
    • Way worse feedback when you hit some1 or get hit compared to chivalry.
    • enemies spawn in your back, needs improvement
    • shields are way too strong, leading to permaturtling boring shit
    • Samurai’s silly screaming with every attack

    Uncertain:
    Duel mode is interesting, but I think I prefer Chivalry’s “can’t hide from enemies more”. Also people who just attack everyone constantly (like a retarded squirell) kill the gamemode for me.

    Bugs:

    • as Ninja I hit a Pirate in the head with a shuriken, and his head transformed to a Samurai Helmet when playing the “headgear comes off”-animation.
    • Chat bugs out, can’t type
    • Votemap and maplist not working
    • Players behave like assholes, this bug is in games since ages :P
    • Server browser still not working, still shows passworded servers
    • Flintlock weapons (pirate pistol and musket) don’t show stats in menue
    • teammarkers only work every 10th game
    • sometimes thrown weapons can’t be picked up from shields (all the time?)
    • when hit with a Metsubushi, some strange placeholder graphic appears (most likely known bug)
    • mouse-decceleration when blocking or attacking stops working, making me spin like a madman
    • flinch could as well not be there
    • hitdetection doesn’t work - at all: hits go trough people or sometimes hit from 30 meters away
    • “view server info” in the server browser doesn’t show anything
    • server browser lies about pings
    • sometimes a random action gets triggered (or atleast animation plays) although no button is pressed
    • buttonqueing strange, keypresses are still executed after seconds (after a block)
    • Pirate can shoot flintlock pistol before time counts down to 0 in duel mode
    • 3 ppl in duel mode at the same time (in those “cages”)
    • mouse speed different (although at the same number) compared to chivalry.
    • In Duel Mode: you sometimes get -50 points for teamkilling
    • flinch rarley works, if ever,
    • stamina drains for no reason
    • stamina not regenerating sometimes
    • no stun after running out of stamina
    • mouse not slowing down when blocking or attacking quite often
    • ninja sometimes makes a random roll when blocking and counterattacking
    • game crashes (crashed) after a successful voteresetmap, but so does vanilla chivalry

    Balance:

    • Metsubushi seems a bit strong, but maybe needed? Edit: imba in duels
    • Ninja needs to make atleast audible, if very silent, footsteps
    • remapable key for ninja’s throwing weapons
    • why is samurai so damn fast? can run away from anything.
    • takes too many hits to get killed or kill*
    • “right-click” -> show server info -> refresh: not working
    • people showing their back blocking attacks to their back (even worse than in vanilla Chivalry)
    • blocking randomly not working, could also be related to strange “buttonqueing”*
    • ninjas retardedly OP in duels
    • no (real) disadvantage for just spamming weapons, no stun after getting blocked just makes people spam attack all time, making the game very silly.

    Suggestions:

    • Game needs “mouse overs” for many things esp. on Scoreboard.
    • Have some sort of warning when you make your first Weapon the same as your second (misclicked etc.)
    • Give Knight some 1handed Sword for Sword+Board (Longsword looks silly onehanded)
    • FFA needs some respawntimer to change equip etc. People are just standing around afk, that’s not fun
    • After a match, Let people go back to the voting screen and change their vote after they cast their vote via a button
    • button to join the team with lower players (autojoinbutton)
    • Viking: button to put away the shield w/o having to throw it
    • In DUEL MODE: If I change character, don’t let me respawn, just change it NEXT round
    • In DUEL MODE: make it clearer that hiting someone who already accepted the challenge resets the counter. I’ve seen peopel wailing at each other because they didn’t understand the system.

    Number of times people wanted to have their money back: rougly 24
    Number of times the client crashed: 1

    *could be related to poor performance and lag/choke/loss

    Yeah, but it honestly isn’t that much.

    This game is still like a TK factory right now.

    I think the most frustrating thing in the game is how the teams get so crazy out of balance. It’s hard to really gauge how fun the new stuff is when you are one dude running into five while your team has a competition for kicking and shield bashing each other.



  • I agree to everything except the no slashing for spears, to me it feels really weird.



  • I can still slash with the yagi spear or whatever it’s called though (the samurai one).



  • Parrying with your weapon just won’t work 50% of the time… this seriously needs some tweaking.



  • A lot of issues are caused by the game being sped up, The parry and shield kick don’t work as well because those animations play a lot faster giving no opening for attacking when the opponent is stunned from shield kick, Meaning shields are more viable now than they were in the original game.



  • Maybe it is because I miss so much with the new hitboxes/tracers, but does anyone else think stamina is way too low? Fighting multiple enemies is nearly impossible because after one miss and maybe a necessary panic parry you can’t combo anymore and get dazed on the next parry. I know: CftP. But is it worse in DW than in Chiv? Heavy breathing is like an ambient sound for me now.



  • I agree with pretty much everything on your list.
    The biggest issue for me is the feel of combat, the clunkiness of combos and the animations being very difficult to predict, almost as if there’s no flow or fluid transition between them. Feels super iffy.

    edit: upon playing some more i’m not even sure it’s the animations (sometimes they appear off) but I find it so much harder to block in DW for some reason.

    Esp. the last part: I have made the same observation. Most people are moaning like in a porno.

    I actually haven’t really looked at my stamina much, but in retrospective, I also have the same impression like you. Though it could easily be the whole “hit detection”-problem.

    Metsubushi… drains stamina if you are standing in the AoE… just walk out of it :D

    its funny how you guys also noticed a problem with the stamina… have you tried to get a succesful berserk as viking? (swing weapons repeatedly for insane attack speed) it is possible… but as soon as you reach the climax (the speed you want) you are either completely out of stamina or the effect wears off by its timer… and then you are left with no stamina, most likely no shield as you would have tossed that in hopes to get an awesome kill or a good initiation, your enemies on the other hand, has almost all their stamina left since you spent all yours swinging into thin air to build a good berserk… and when i find myself in this moment i swear i can see a trollface pattern on my enemies movements and taunts/laughing while he is walking all over me, with me being unable to flee even a knights slow speed… all he has to do is aim at you while chasing you to gain speed and thereby able to catch up to you… might take some time for knight… but he can do it… unless its vs pirate or ninja… Samurai can’t run from him for example… neither can viking or spartan…

    Yeah, I’m sad too that I can’t slash with the spear.

    I don’t care if it TBS would have it just do 5 points of damage, just please keep it in! It’s important when MaA (or ninjas now) dodge to either side of you and think he can stab me in the ribs, you stop this behaviour with a spear slash! Or if you fight some opponent 1 on 1 who has no problem with your stabs, a spear slash or alt spear slash might catch him off guard if you use the right footwork. Or if you get surrounded by a few enemies, a spear slash might save your ass just to flinch them and get out there. I found it pretty hard to fight as a viking with a boar spear (that’s how I want to fight with my viking, a bit of historical reenactment.) Spartan is easier since he has a big shield for protection and he has his awesome shield bash, which is an horizontal attack, like a spear slash but short range. Very handy for scenarios mentioned above. And the samurai can slash with his spear-thingy too.

    Also, fun fact, in early Alpha, the Spartan could do a spear slash with his spear in one hand, it looked very much like it’s done in the fight between Achilles and Hector in the movie Troy! I think most testers thought it was OP, though, I don’t remember. Looked cool.



  • i’ve noticed stamina drain even without being hit with metsu unless the ground effect lasts forever and stays invisible



  • Priority #1 should be to give Vikings original voices.



  • smoke bomb drains stamina which is pretty cool.



  • Two more little things I really like, the sound of the pirate guns (especially in the distance) and the sound it makes when you hit the spartans shield, it is so, for lack of a better word, “lush” or “rich”. I love smashing on the shields just for the sound :D



  • Absolutely love the ninja voices, Ssshhhh!
    I enjoy the maps a lot, especially the pirate island. I used to hate how big they were, but when a server is full, it is very easy to find the enemy.
    Also love the viking weapon throw, greatest addition ever. I hope they add good voiced for the viking, they should laugh histerically when they are set on fire :D

    My main gripe with the game is how effective it is for players to choose knight/samurai and just lmb spam and win through hit trading. Shorter range weapons and weaker classes can’t match up to that.
