Samurai are too good

  • @YarnuTheDog:

I think a cool & possible idea would be to make the larger Samurai weapons primaries, and have secondaries as Katanas and WAKIZASKHIZAOKIOKOOOO.

This way I’d feel each Samurai had the choice to specialise into a weapon category and with that gain whatever buffs that weapon provides! ATM I’m seeing many Samurai grabbing a superb Zwei-Dachi and the polearm/spear with a Yumi Bow!

My main qualm is the amount of Yumi Bows I’m seeing!

Katanas are already a really nice sword, I’d like to see this used more frequently amongst players. Perhaps as a back-up weapon for Spearmen and Yumi Bow Rangers! 8-)

    "GET THOSE RANGERS!"

    I made a thread about it: viewtopic.php?f=103&t=23777

  • Yari combo thrusts are complete bullshit, who thought that comboing with spear is good idea? With Yari you can miss first hit to make your opponent panic parry and then just keep lmbing and dragging at the same time to beat your opponent without any effort (throw feint once in a while for decent players)
Yumi would be fine with this idea
Nodachi has great range, great damage and great speed. Downsides?

    There is no panic parry.

Also the hair has a useless LMB. So if you get close you can destroy them.

The hard part is getting close.

  • Panic parry is when you make your opponent panic parry :?

  • @rumpelstiltskin:

Panic parry is when you make your opponent panic parry :?

In C:MW there is a mechanic called panic parry that costs 25 stamina to do and it lets you parry in release.

Can’t do that in this game.

You mean that you trick you opponent into parrying by missing. And that doesn’t do anything. They just parry your next thrust unless they are retarded. And all you do is bring yourself closer to your opponent which is bad.

People used term panic parry long before that mechanic was released.

  • @wyrda78:

Is it the yari? I saw Xjapan using it so it’s probably the most OP weapon.

More likely he’s using it because spears were his, along with Z.SmokeJaguar/Air Conditioned Crimes/The Grace Maker (or whatever he’s changed his name to now)'s, specialty when he first started playing Chiv.

  • Don’t really find an issue with Samurai outside of the range they are given. They resemble Vanguard but with longer reach. Don’t know who’s bright idea it was to give them such insane reach.

  • @SlyGoat:

Nodachi, Yari and Yumi are getting nerfed a bit. Some of the Samurai’s other weapons may be buffed as well. I don’t think the class is too good, but the arsenal is definitely imbalanced.

agreed, they are good BECAUSE of the weapons

  • So what I’m reading is… nobody can get past Sam’s range because they don’t know how to block
    Really
Really making a point of how it’s really NOT your fault you can’t deal with Sams

Sam was already nerfed this patch guys
    Get over yourselves

  • Their weakness is pirates. No shields and they are big targets.

    Spartan vs. Samurai

Samurai win nearly every time, even if they have less players.

I wonder if there is a reason for that… hmm…

  • i try to make it short: total bullshit; l2p

  • @Mustaklaki:

I wonder if there is a reason for that… hmm…

there is, and it’s an obvious one
Sam is a noob class, Spartan is by far the hardest to play effectively

    Noob class doesn’t equal OP
hardest to play doesn’t equal UP

all the noobs on the Sam team are killing all the noobs on the Spartan team
it’s that easy to figure out
you should try using logic next time too

I would stay ninjas is the hardest to play.

But yes your right. Being hard to play and else the class doesn’t make it under powered and vice versa.

  • @lemonater47:

nah I wouldn’t say that, at least Ninjas can spam M1 with the staff or katana
Spartan’s can’t spam M1 with any of their weapons

  • Re: class differences

Knight speed is 222, Samurai is 234, Spartan/Viking are 246, Pirate/Ninja are 258. That’s a linear 12 point speed difference from one to the next.

Knight armor is .5 swing .5 pierce .6 blunt.
Samurai is .55 swing, .6 pierce, .6 blunt.

So yes, Samurai is the second slowest class and the second most heavily armored. The armor differences are calculated as being enough to make a difference in hits to kill in many cases, particularly for piercing damage weapons. There are also a lot of weapons that would kill Knight and Samurai in the same # of hits if every hit is 100% damage, but would not kill a Knight if you managed a 90% damage hit on one of your attacks while still killing a Samurai even if all 3 hits are sub-optimal.

Why is the samurai so heavily armoured compared to a class like a Spartan in Bronze armour? If anything, IMO the Spartan should be the more heavily armoured but slower class.

  • thread can probably be closed now, they got nerfed, and not by too much to where they are now useless, i think they’re perfectly fine now.

I was wondering the same thing, spartan has more armour plus a heavy shield, he should be tanking. Samurai needs less hp for balance, beeing more agile.
