Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Launcher Error
Until this recent update, I have been able to run this game just fine. After updating it earlier today, whenever I try to launch the game, it performs the first time setup, then I am given this message. Steam continues to say that I am ingame in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and the ChivalryLauncher process is still running, as seen in the task manager, but nothing more happens. I do not see any launcher, and the game doesn’t start.
It would appear you do not have the correct redistributable installed, Steam is supposed to install it for you but it seems that that is not the case. Try installing the 2012 redistributable from here.
After not playing Chivalry for a long time, I decided to give it a go again. To my disappointment, after downloading an update, I was unable to get the game to launch, and was instead presented with this.
The log file does not contain anything from today after this issue.
When I try to install that, I get this.
I have noticed similar failure messages when trying to install a number of different programs as well.
Steam fails to install the 32-bit Visual Studio 2012 redistributable for some people. You can manually install it from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=30679 (do the 32-bit or “x86” version, since the launcher is a 32-bit application)
Merged this thread with the other identical one.
If you also get that error when trying to install the x86 redistributable, eh, I don’t know, it’s something Windows/Microsoft-related. Some references to that error I can see:
A few references look like:
https://www.arcanadev.com/support/kb/I02000030.aspx – Their fix is to create a C:\Temp directory and make sure the %TEMP% environment variable points to it. You also have to ensure the current user has permissions to access the directory %TEMP% points to.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2564571 which suggests killing and restarting explorer.exe; though that error is appearing from another action (trying to uninstall a program) I think it’s the same service firing it off.
Okay, I Just found a way to BYPASS this error, not fix it…
If you’re on a 32 bit windows :
Go to your steam folder > SteamApps > common > chivalrymedievalwarfare > There should be a .bat file under the name “SDK - Launch game”. It should open a cmd window and then start loading the game, bypassing the error.
If you’re on a 64 bit windows :
Go to your steam folder > SteamApps > common > chivalrymedievalwarfare > Binaries > Win64 > CMW.exe You just open it and it loads the game, bypassing the error.
I got the solution from here - steamcommunity.com/app/219640/discussions/0/540741859329680742/
