UDK.exe/Steam Doesn't Work

  • So I bought the game during the winter sale, and it has NEVER worked for me. It opens the launcher, I click on Chivalry, it says I’m playing for about 5 seconds, then it goes away. Game never shows up. I looked in the big thread of fixes, but none of the solutions worked. I tried launching UDK.exe and it said it’s not compatible with windows, I’ve tried launching it as admin and it says the same thing. Either it really doesn’t work on Windows, or I have a serious issue

  • BUMP……

  • Developer

Launch the 32-bit other one, Binaries/Win32/CMW.exe

Can you post any log and dump files you have in

    C:\Users{User name}\Documents\My Games\Chivalry Medieval Warfare\UDKGame\Logs

    ?

  • I know this is a late reply, but I’m having the exact same issue. Everything’s up to date, everything’s been verified and reinstalled, everything’s running in Admin.

I assume you want the Launch file? That’s all I have in the Logs directory. It’s insanely long, and doesn’t fit in the post.

  • I’ve had this problem for months now, game won’t start, I’ve done all the suggestions in the sticky. Here’s my logfile.

The files that it says are not there, are there.

What is going on in this thread? This is three separate issues now. Can you other people please post your launch.log and the corresponding .dmp file? You can post them e.g. to http://mega.co.nz if they don’t fit here. All I generally need are the first couple hundred and the last couple hundred lines of the log though, at most.

  • See part of my confusion is that there actually isn’t even a .dmp log. I’m assuming because the game’s not getting far enough along to realize there’s been an issue? I’m not really sure. I’m uploading the launch log at the moment, but here’s some of the launch log, specifically the beginning and tail end of it.

Anything different happen if you launch UDKEditor.exe directory from path_to_steam_library\chivalrymedievalwarfare\Binaries\Win32\UDKEditor.exe (there’s no difference between this and the normal executable except that this doesn’t forcibly launch through Steam)?

Can you try manually running the redists in path_to_steam_library\chivalrymedievalwarfare_CommonRedist ?

(there’s a space in Binaries an in CommonRedist, sorry about that, the forums are doing that)

  • Trying to use the first one brings up a .Net error, but it’s installed properly and works fine with everything else. I’ve tried reinstalling .Net also, but nada.

The redists didn’t seem to make a difference either.

  • Developer

Sorry, yeah, UDKEditor.exe needs .NET 4.5, otherwise you’ll get some error about a missing method or such.

  • So I’m kinda hosed til I can figure out what’s up with .Net?

  • Developer

Sorry, I meant to launch UDKEditor.exe you can try installing .NET 4.5 if you haven’t already (again, http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=30653 ). I’m assuming you only have .NET 4.0 (or earlier) installed.

UDK.exe/CMW.exe should be getting compiled with a .NET requirement as well, but it ought to be working with 4.0. However, if .NET is hosed altogether that could explain why the game isn’t starting…

  • Nah I have 4.5, but it doesn’t seem to be recognizing it. I’m having issues with Borderlands 2 recognizing it also (which I hadn’t tried messing with til today), so I’m going to dig around and see if I can figure out what’s up, since it sounds like it’s a .Net issue first and foremost.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Developer

The main game executable (CMW.exe / UDK.exe) in the Beta app doesn’t have a .NET requirement any longer. This’ll be pushed to the main game come the next patch (which is coming soon), so that might help if this is because your .NET install is borked somehow. (The editor still requires it)

    This post is deleted!
