Increasing FPS for a potato computer?

  • Hey all,

    So I downloaded Chivalry two weeks ago and have been playing it lowest settings with 800x680 resolution and I’ve been getting 30FPS, I was wondering if there’s some tips and tricks to increase FPS more?

    My specs:

    Windows 7 32bit
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz
    2GB RAM

    Before you say “get a new one” I’m currently saving up and should be able to afford a beast gaming computer in a month or so :)

    Thanks.

  • If you have a dual graphics setup make sure you are using the better one (Chiv often runs on the weaker by default). Make sure to use the newest drivers you can run. Get every graphic settings on lowest (there is also an .ini you can edit for more details). Close all other programs you don’t need while playing Chivalry. Disable the Steam Community!

    Somewhere there was a tool to compress your textures increasing performance - but I can’t find it (there was an old forum post but TB decided they hate old forums posts and deleted them).

    That was just placebo though

    Yep, that tool did nothing at all other than break your UDK Editor icons/textures. :D

    It seems a bit outdated and the different settings are in two files instead of one: UDKEngine.ini and UDKSystemSettings.ini.

    Yes it is somewhat out dated. I keep current updated tweaks on the Kila clan site with downloadable versions of both those files. There is also info on how to run Chiv at high priority settings and a nice little prog that keeps that setting. So follow this link: http://kilas.enjin.com/home/viewforum/1874991/m/383971

    And do the top 3 posts. That should help. Hit me up if you have any questions.

  • Overclock your CPU, this will seriously help. I pushed my 955be from 3.2ghz to 3.8ghz and that made a massive difference, for $40 worth of after market cooling best bang for your bung.

  • Upgrading is basically out of the question at the moment, my power supply is limited to 350watts and so can’t handle much and is a small case so most graphics cards etc don’t fit.

  • For a quick command try “Scale Lowend” in your console as this will lower many settings not available in the game menu. But I believe my INI files do more. You can also try the Hialgo Switch. It does work for chivalry, I just didnt like how it looked but it goes beyond what my INI files can do. It is just too ugly for me.

  • Is there any need for the UDKGame logs folder? All the files take up 74mb for me and if they aren’t really essential I’d prefer them gone.

  • Go in \Documents\My Games\Chivalry Medieval Warfare\UDKGame\Config

    open UDKSystemsettings.ini

    SpeedTreeLeaves=True
    SpeedTreeFronds=True
    OnlyStreamInTextures=True
    OneFrameThreadLag=True

    make sure these are true

    might help a bit, if not

    heres a config that puts your chivalry graphics to quake graphics

    try it out but BE WARNED the textures look like you have picmip 10 they are just one color lol

    but thats the lowest quality you can get, but looks horrible :) just saying
