Barbarian skins?

  • I figured there wasn’t a topic solely about this so… what the hell, I’ll do it.

Barbarian skins? In Medieval Warfare? REALLY???

They look cool. They look interesting. They look better polished than the vikings and spartans from Deadliest Warrior.
But come on! Barbarians in Chivalry?!

On one hand I really hope this is an early april fools joke, but on the other I know it can’t be because the character models seem like they have costed a high amount of time to create.

So how does this work? Will there be seperate gamemodes for them? FFA-only?
Or did you see the amount of votes in “What cosmetic would you like to see next?” and said: _“Screw it. We’ll just add BARBARIANS to CMW because there’s not enough people who bought our DLC.”
    _

I’m really wondering how this is gonna turn out. I mean… you DO know Huns aren’t the same as Knights, right?

  • Might as well repost this.

The skins have caused some controversy, and for a good reason… I lol’d when I saw them ingame.

    DLC knight:**

These guys don’t look too bad (actually they look quite good http://i.imgur.com/WeQBQ0D.png ), but the neck area could certainly be more beefy. The default helmet and the armor don’t blend in too well, as seen in the first picture.

    Barbarian knight:**

The Agatha knight looks slightly silly with that road cone and whatnot, but otherwise is not too bad. I’d give him some extra armor instead of fur, particularly on hands and neck area.
Now, the Mason knight falls straight into the “ridiculous” category. A spiked bronze helmet, naked and hairy chest, a random shoulder plate and fur dress. Get a rid of the dress and ridiculous helmet, then give him some proper armor and he will at least look plausible.

    Barbarian archer:

Minus the bowl hat the Agatha archer looks good, though I’d give him leather boots instead of fur.
And again the Mason archer is ridiculous. Just… look at it. Needs a complete redesign.

Without the helmet, Agatha archer looks like Aaron Paul
    **
    Barbarian vanguard:**

    http://i.imgur.com/vgnCWrA.png

These guys don’t look like vanguards at all, they should definitely be more skinny. Both of their hats look stupid as well. Get a rid of them. Mason vanguard needs to put a shirt on, and while shiny leather pants could be considered sexy these days, I doubt a warrior would have worn them into battle. The Agatha vanguard’s random chain that connects the two shoulder plates is completely out of place. How does it help him to tank hits? If anything, he’ll get pulled down onto his nose once an enemy sees this decoration.
    **
    Barbarian man-at-arms:**

Ugh… you guys definitely have a fur fetish. Agatha man-at-arms isn’t bad when equipped with team colors, but we need less wolf hats, more clothing and armor. Also boots.

All the new DLC helmets look alright.

I wouldn’t mind if Barbarians were made into a separate faction with some appropriate maps, but please do not put them into the game in their current state. All of them look silly or ridiculous in some aspect, and some have been blatantly overdesigned.

  • The sillier this game gets the more immersed I become.

  • The Agatha models aren’t bad - they are just a little big right now. And they do look like medieval armors - not the most expensive sort but still enough. The Mason models… not so much…

And you DO know the the Huns not only were a medieval civilisation but the most powerful medieval civilisation?

  • People wanted Skyrim with Chivalry combat, people get Chivalry with Skyrim models.

  • @Evil:

I figured a more historically accurate reply would pop up eventually :D
But like INerevar said, I just never expected Forsworn to appear in CMW.

  • The barbarians look barbarian enough.

Though I don’t like the shirtless variants of the vanguard and knight. GIVE THEM MOAR ARMOUR. I don’t want to be taking 4 hits to kill a naked dude with a massive sword just because a couple of the developers might like looking at guys with no shirts on.

You could almost swap the mason vanguard model with the mason MAA model.

Barbarian models NEED some serious work. Player retention guys. Shirtless dudes is not how to do that.

  • I don’t like having barbarians in my Chiv :l
    Other models look cool though.

  • @Vesanus:

Many people will say this in game. And it will be enough to turn some people away. It definitely won’t bring people in.

My only problems with it is that the heavy classes don’t look like heavy classes. Stick some metal armour on those shirtless vanguards and knights. So they actually look like heavy classes.

  • Semi-naked men running arround the battlefield, way to set an athmosphere to the game

  • the first new content in a year (except helms) and the community is already crucifying it. I don’t understand all the hate for the barbarians sure maybe they don’t 100% fit perfectly into ever little aspect of chivalry but im just thankful as hell were getting something new in terms of content. Im pretty sure barbarians existed in medieval times and im not positive but I think this is a medieval themed game.

“they don’t fit into the game its just a bunch of fantasy crap” so not a single person besides me has had the idea that Agatha and mason has hired barbarian mercs to help them fight? but for them being unrealistic the Agatha side represents the noble side of barbarians the kind ud see sitting in a long hall talking about oden or that stuff and the mason side looks more like the savage barbarians we come to think of from stories and such they might not of wore horned helmets but what looks awesome as hell… horned helmets

For them not fitting in the game to me they fit perfectly. Stone hill a horde of barbarians pillaging and burning a village? sounds right to me. Every other map a group of mercenary’s hired to help fight the other side weather its to light a beacon get into a ffa in a tavern or burn a farm it all seems to fit just fine

as for the mason side being so bare chested im pretty sure that’s to help distinguish them. normal Agatha and mason vanguards cover the Agatha in blood and they look like twins. barbarians models… okay hes bare chested and that ones wearing leather armour

besides this game isant about being 100% realistic down to the dot that’s why were able to play as knights we got room for more ideas and if you really don’t like the models that much whats stopping you from just not using them? they don’t effect gameplay and your not forced to select them there just a nice little cosmetic… like helmets

TB I love the barbarian models its a nice little addition to the game and id like to see other models of different warriors that could fit into the “mercenary” idea.

  • They don’t make sense in the game. If were going to have customizations THAT ridiculous, we might as well have more. Personally I’d love to run around in a tuxedo killing people with a golden, diamond studded maul. That would be just as ridiculous as the barbarian customs but a lot more fun.

  • I agree with Swagfox. Barbarian skins are way over the line of “customization”.

The thing is: I just get the idea that these models would have been better for a DW update. I fear Torn Banner has decided to put them in Chiv instead because more people play it.

I’m sorry but I don’t think I’ll EVER like barbarians in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. So far I’ve done my best to back my opinions up and come up with (better) alternatives but this time: Screw it. **Don’t fucking put content in Medieval Warfare that belongs in Deadliest Warrior.
    **
It’s too bad some of you on these forums actually say they like the addition of barbarian models, cause I was really hoping this would be the time where we all said “Hell no!” and flip a finger to this ridiculous idea.

  • Barbarians…… This calls for getting your gay on!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qosfSebSLP4

  • I have no problem with the idea of other races in Medieval Warfare. The issue I have with these is that they look really stupid, and are hard to tell apart from each other. Way too much brown. The Vanguards also look nothing like Vanguards.

  • Still can’t figure out how barbarians don’t fit in medieval times. You guys have some very narrow ideas of what constitutes a medieval theme.

  • I AM UPSET. BARBARIANS HAVE NO PLACE IN MY INCREDIBLY SERIOUS AND HISTORICALLY ACCURATE GAME ABOUT RAIDING A CASTLE LOCATED ABOVE LAVA NEAR AN ACTIVE VOLCANO WHILE SCREAMING HELP AND LAUGHING INSANELY. SERIOUSLY? BARBARIANS? THAT’S JUST RIDICULOUS. TORN BANNER SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.

(I fully support these and will probably be picking them up when the patch goes live. It’s hilarious because I feel like if Torn Banner called them “Mercenaries” or something rather than “Barbarians” people wouldn’t be freaking out as much.)

  • @dudeface:

    Exactly my thoughts, lmao.

Models look nice imo, besides, nobody is forcing you guys to use them.

  • @MissingNo:

Semi-naked men running around the battlefield, way to set an atmosphere to the game

Spelling corrections aside, nothing screams fabulous than a bunch of sexy, semi naked men ready to rap e and pillage if you know what I mean….

    Barbarians…

  • @Hitom:

    Exactly my thoughts, lmao.

No but if people buy them we are forced to watch them do their Bear Force One!

    Whoooha Whooooha whoha!
