CMW.exe has stopped working



  • I have been playing chivalry mideval warfare pretty consistently for a while, but yesterday when I tried to open up the game I was met with the “CMW.exe has stopped working” message from my computer. I would like to note that this is just mideval warfare and that I can still play deadliest warrior and my other games. I have tried all the solutions on the mega thread and have also tried the unsubscribe/cooked sdk fix that seemed to have worked for others. I have tried all possible combinations of running the game in safe mode and 32bit. This message pops up inbetween the window where you choose to play either CMW or DW and the error pops up before the game window is opened. I have attached the DXDiag as an attachment and the launch log is below. I am hoping that one of you guys will be able to help me with my problem.<br /><br />EDIT: Also I am not sure of the relevance of this, but whenever I validate the steam files it always says the 4   • I’m getting the exact same problem. The same 4 files download each time when you validate the files and CMW continues to crash on start up.

    Delete C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\UDKGame\CookedPC*LocalShaderCache-PC-D3D-SM3.upk* (or whichever path corresponds to where you have Chivalry)

    Have you played on any SDK maps recently? There might be one with a corrupt shader cache; if you can figure out which one did it, that will help us. If we can reproduce this we should be able to add in extra error handling for it.



  • Hey, this helped me out a bit. I’ve been having the same problem for a while now. After deleting that file I was able to get into the menu for the first time in weeks without it crashing. Now, the screen goes black for about 90 seconds after the splash screen drops until the menu loads in. From there I can’t join any games without it freezing during loading. This last time it crashed so hard when I was able to shut down the process even Steam or Nvidia control panel wasn’t running anymore.

  • I Subscribe to all maps as soon as they come out. Considering that it is probably one of the newer maps that have come out. So it is probably one of the maps that has come out since Irilla shore. Also thanks for the solution it worked for me.

    If you’re just trying to skip the intro screens, add -NOSPLASH to the command line (“Launch Options” in Steam parlance)

    Just an update.

    Deleting the locaShaderCache file worked, I got into the game yet it started in 800x600 resolution and a few of my previous options were changed. Changed everything to what I wanted so everything is back to normal.
