Balance Ideas for Coldfront and Outpost

  • So let me start off by saying I love the new maps and I’m really happy to see new maps implemented into the game. I would just like to see these maps final objectives improved upon to were you don’t need a stacked team to win.

Let’s start with Outpost, if you’re the defending team and they get to the final objective I don’t find that you have a fair shot at winning mainly because you’re relying on AI to survive. I would suggest that there is either A) Only one chieftan who is controlled by the top player on the defending team and your objective is to defend him and the tower. Or B) You keep all four NPC chieftans but require the attacking team to both kill all of the chieftans as well as take the tower. Personally I much prefer option A but at least option B would help some to give the defender’s a better chance at winning.

Now onto Coldfront I absolutely love the atmosphere and all of the objectives on this map I just hope there is a way to give the defending team’s king a better chance to escape the castle. Honestly I’m not sure the best way to do this so I’m hoping to see some suggestions from other members of the community on this one. I know a big part of this objective is getting people to rely around the king and have a king that understands when to run for it and when to stay back and let his team take out the attackers. I’m just going to throw out a crazy idea here so just bear with me…. What if you made the king a Man At Arms, give him the same amount of health as the knight king but because of the extra speed and dodging ability maybe he’ll have a better shot to escape. You could even call him the prince and say he’s the last known heir to the throne if that makes people feel better about it.

Anyways I’d love to hear some constructive thoughts on this and hopefully we can present some suggestion that are good enough for TBS to implement into the game. Thanks for reading!

  • I’m sure they will balance it out so that defenders have better chance of winning.

Remember when Citadel was first released and defenders spawned on the wall at first objective? Those were good times not being able to see the rest of the map.

  • I actually like the difficulty of the King Escape on Cold Front. It really requires Agatha to work together to push through. Perhaps just a little tweak on Mason spawn points as the king escapes.

  • Give the King a shield, I remember spawning as King last knight and thought, ‘I really want a shield for this bit’. A shield would give the king that extra survivability he needs.

  • you mean not having to dance around like retard avoiding projectiles all the time?

  • I like option A in the OP for Outpost. The concept of having two separate objectives in the same area to choose between is something I love, the chieftain objective just doesn’t work well with these AI’s.

  • They should have made the chieftains players. It would have been a great feature of the map, to have 4 fairly powerful players to kill, since it is easier to capture the tower they would all naturally huddle near the tower making for an epic assault.

  • Did the king ever get to the exit? Didn’t see that happen so far

  • I made it with my team. Busted through the middle door, up the stairs, battled in the room with the big wheel objective, ran to the siege tower, ran down it. That turned out to be a great idea. The Masons came running up the stairs and had to run all the way around because they couldn’t jump up into the siege tower door.

Then out the siege tower bottom, skirted past the rocks and out near 1st objective A building then a straight line to the docks, at the end I had a vanguard swinging his greatsword at me and I jump-parried for the increased knock back and made it to the boat.

Such an epic run, I’m glad it is hard.

  • its really hard but really fun to win

i think the mason spawns should get pushed back as the king moves closer to the boat

  • @afiNity:

I saw it a few times in when the map was in beta but not once since it has released.

Sure I have seen it, king was smart - making progress and falling back if he lost his body guards.

But yeah all the kings need a shield to make them survive longer. Maybe not stoneshill which has a very defensible position.

  • with some decent people and not noobs on defense, outpost is actually pretty balance i found now that people have had a chance to play it more.

Coldfront is still super easy for attacking. Best chance is to hold the first objective, after that it’s pretty much doneski

  • I think TB is already beta testing outpost so you have to capture the tower and kill the chiefs

coldfront is fun but really easy for attackers I don’t have a problem with the first obj but the 2nd is kinda dumb capture or destroy the gate all mason has to do is sit on the cat and break the gate id rather have it be capture only and add in some raising siege ladders objs

but the king escort part I almost saw it happen but he died almost at the boat this part would be fair if Agatha would respawn closer to the king depending on where he is i mean if the king is almost at the boat and you respawn in the throne room…. your not gonna get to him

  • yeah, something must be done with the Coldfront final stage, i played it a dozen of times , always won as the attacker and managed only one win as Agatha and that was mainly due to some really nice killstreaks that half of the team got, we wiped out the entire Mason team a couple of times .
i think the first step is to give the king access to the entire knight arsenal , let him use a shield if he wants to , this is not Stoneshill where he will duck in a corner behind a shield, here he must run - he is MUCH more vulnerable no matter his set up, we all know how fast a knight can run, not to mention running with a shield raised :) .

Simply make the chieftains controlled by human players. Fixed. The chieftain players will then naturally move to the tower to defend it. Having the chieftains playing together defending the tower will be a powerful thing to contend with, and in that case capturing the tower OR killing the chieftains is justified…

Agatha spawn is pushed up to the castle walls once the king enters the final courtyard.

  • I’ve killed the king with a catapult shot 3 times now. Best catapultin’ map.

I like it as well, have seen it done a few times now.

What I particularly like is that it turns the normal attack/defense dynamic around. Usually defending on pubs is tactically easy. Most of the time just rushing forward to kill people is enough and if you want to be super tactical stand around near the objective. Defenders usually get more kills as well.

Whereas with this objective defenders have to actually work as a team not only to defend the king but coordinate enough to move him forward.

I think people are starting to get the hang of this map now and it’s becoming quite fun actually.
