User Survey Results

  • ahoy

I ran a user survey back in Feb and thought I would post the results for anyone who took part or is interested
This is a draft so there may be a few typos and things

The first person perspective melee combat of Chivalry seemed to produce some interesting features.

Any feedback welcome, I dont expect anyone to read it but you never know. There is alot of opinion/speculation/theory in there about the potential causation for some of the statistical effects we see. If you disagree let me know, while I do/have played all the games in the study, experience is of course subjective.

Here is a link to the document on dropbox

thanks again to everyone who took part

    Some notes about the report:
    1. Its big and dense.

    2. I think most people will be interested in the comparative analysis (their game vs the other games), the pdf is hyperlinked so its easy to find. (page 19)

    3. It might be a bit hard to follow if you are not into stats, but I hope the highlighting helps. There are alot of numbers, but the stats used are not very complicated, the report mostly focuses on correlations and effect sizes (sizes of difference made by a variable).

    4. Before anyone shouts at me about using correlations, I know, correlation do not show causation, please read the statistical criteria section

    5. The justification for the various variables and reasons for the study are in a literature review which is not part of this document (it would make it too big and boring), but it does exist and will of course be included in the thesis chapter.

  • I’d just like to point out that Warthunder doesn’t have any realistic physics even in simulation mode, it is a purely arcade game and is not considered a simulator.

  • We got the highest scores? Did we win?

Odeken is awesome. Source: me, some guy irl

  • Can’t say much about the other games, but Chiv was spot-on.

There were plenty of typos btw. If this is some sort of a university project, I’d recommend doing some proofreading rounds.

Yeah sorry, I did warn you :) its going to be part of a thesis, as I say it is the first full draft of this particular section so there will be some typos, and plenty of proof-reading to do. thanks for checking it out.

Thanks, I havent played sim mode, only Arcade. I will amend the description to say ‘pseudo-realistic’ or ‘claims to be realistic’ or something along those lines.

  • I don’t understand half the statistics stuff, but it was an interesting paper. Good luck with it!

  • Good read. Great work. I think more players and the devs should read the final analsys of Chivalry itself as it is quite enlightening about trust in teammates which doesnt exist in pub play and had the lowest team cohesion, “Auto-balancing is likely to be extremely detrimental to team identity” and Archers are the well deserved redheaded step child that most everyone hates.

“Alternatively it may be that in Chivalry, team performance is secondary to personal performance, and therefore the impact on social presence of a team loss is reduced.”

In other words …. It is all about me!

  • dude its always about me, whenever i go afk in TO for a few seconds to chat someone the enemy team always pushes up

That is one of the things I like about Chiv. 1 lone player who is really good can achieve significant progress in pushing/defending objectives if they other side lacks cohesive team. On the flip side, 1 lone really good player can’t stop a team of average players playing well as a team.
