Are you satisfied with new maps?

  • (Coldfront, Outpost)

  • They need massive changes overall. Both third objectives in these maps are currently in my opinion, alpha tier. They aren’t too well thought out, and tend to be impossible for the defenders. Coldfront has Citadel-like fps issues, which I’m not sure how TB can fix without major overhauls on the map layout. The second objective in Cold Front similarly feels impossible to defend against, because the attackers will inevitably break the door down with catapults and ballistas. The door is far too easy to break, and it doesn’t feel like a struggle to get through this objective for attackers. If you push out too far trying to remove all the catapults and ballistas, you risk being so far away from the castle wall that the attackers will easily take the top and lower the gate. The first objective is alright, but this is where most players have fps issues because of the open ground and bots.

Outpost is far better, the second objective could use less hue to the fog because the deep blue tends to muddy player colors, making it extremely hard to distinguish enemy from friend at a glance. Also the points for standing on the cart ruin any sense of player contribution. The third objective has me baffled how it was even allowed to exist. Bot AI controlling anything major in a multiplayer environment is not good. Splitting the objectives in two ways and not requiring both to be accomplished just means you will lose if you focus on one or the other.

  • Coldfront is unplayable for me. I can’t really talk about outpost, cause I’ve never played it in a scrim. On pub it was fun even though it’s a big archer fest

  • @Gauntlet:

Splitting the objectives in two ways and not requiring both to be accomplished just means you will lose if you focus on one or the other.

They already changed it so you need to do both now.

  • Its like they lost their ability to produce good TO maps after they released Citadel.

    Stick to the basics: Darkforest

  • Who knows why they wasted time making 2 maps and then fixing them ofc, while they do a huge contest with a lot of better map, “huhuh no we will only take one map from round 2”

  • I am neutral about them. They are ok and like most maps have issues. Nothing new. But better to have a few more new maps then none at all. Besides there are some really great custom maps that I wish more people had on their servers and wished more people played them. The whining about waiting a min or two to download speaks volumes about our instant gratification society.

last time i looked the third objective on Outpost was to destroy the barricade, the Masons Chiefs was the 4th
    1. Burn the Tents
    2. Escort the Cart
    3. Destroy the Barricade
    4. Capture the Tower OR Kill the Chiefs

but i agree that the 4th Objective on Outpost and the 3rd and maybe the 4th Objective on Coldfront could use an overhaul to make it a little bit more difficult for the Attackers

  • By third objective, I meant the third staging area, the final place in Outpost. Though thanks for bringing up Destroy The Barricade! This one also sucks because you can hop on the ballista in the back and destroy it in two shots. It looked like they tried to put a bandaid fix on that, but I still managed to do it earlier this morning.

  • They need some work, but I enjoy playing them. Seeing the King escape is very satisfying.

  • I’d vote yes if I could get more than 48 fps on them.

  • cough ahem I must confess to not trying a single new map. My tv boxets are so addictive atm.

  • My problem with outpost is that in the last objective the chieftains always seem to end up running towards the front-lines or clustering together as a group.

  • Just played a scrim in Outpost.
None of the objectives came close to StonesHill or DarkForest quality competitive-wise.
I will say though that the final objective, that now requires BOTH the tower and the chieftains captured/killed, is a very balanced final objective.

As for Coldfront, the first clan to pick that map after winning the kendo won’t be scrimmed again in the future as far as I’m concerned.

I don’t like the new maps overall because, even though I know this is not the case, they just feel like some kind of promotion material to the new DLC skins. I’d have preferred some more medieval maps including castles, villages whatever.

  • Agreed ^ Outpost isn’t too bad, but I wouldn’t want to scrim coldfront, needs a lot of work that map.

  • outpost has bad graphics and awful fog but at least i can play it

    coldfront is unplayable

  • Mod

Need more Darkforests and less Citadels.

  • I think they’re awesome just need a few changes….

I can. I get a higher FPS ok the new maps than some of the old ones.

  • They need tuning, but yes I’m satisfied with them as a whole.
