Better multicore support?

  • Would it be a lot to ask right now?

I don’t find it fair that my Intel i7 core http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-3610QM+%40+2.30GHz&id=891

And my Nvidia GeForce GT 640M graphics card http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+640M&id=2147

Cannot run the game at above 20 fps with 7 fps configs and minimal graphical options.

  • Stop downloading porn.exe files its slowing down your computer.

  • Why is there not a report button?
My computer is fine. I can run every other single game without problems.

  • Mod

I had bad FPS on my laptop which has a nvidia 555m. I worked out it was because the nvidia control panel was setting Chivalry to run off my onboard GPU instead of the nvidia card for some reason. You might want to double check for that in your nvidia control panel. I’m not on my laptop at the moment so I can’t remember the exact way to do it though, hopefully someone else will be able to explain it better.

    Already did that.
I only got a whoping 3 fps boost… outside of clustered battles.

  • Overclock your CPU now. Currently since the game isn’t multithreaded very well being unreal 3 your fancy i7 is actually below minimum spec.

  • Hi, I’m using a low powered, low core speed CPU for gaming. It isn’t really a good gaming CPU but I expect it to be excellent at running games. Can you please make it so your game works on non-gaming CPU’s cause I’m too cheap arse to buy a real CPU (i5-4690).

    Thanks.

P.S. O that’s right I’m using a 640M graphics card, a card which is so powerful it scores a mighty 1000 on passmark. A $50 GPU today runs better than it.

p.p.s I have realised the folly of my ways when I bought a LAPTOP for gaming. I will never do such a silly thing again as it severaly limits my upgrade potential and I end up paying MUCH more over the course of 5 years than if I had of bought a Desktop for less money and get more power.

Providing sage wisdom and advise, day after day.

Laptop are notorious for not having the raw power for gaming. While it may statistically bench well. The actual power supply in conjunction with a very compact system is not conducive for gaming. While there are a few custom build laptops, they still all suffer from a lack of real power and the heat they generate leading to a short life.

You should look far deeper into tweaking and settings. Removing excess services while gaming. Follow the link on my sig for additional tweaks and tips at the tech support on the Kila Forums in the tech support section.

I am always pluged in while I play and I always use a fan as well, the laptop never had problems with smooth gaming before, I’ve minimized all options and edited the ini files to hell and beyond. Nothing else apart from steam is running and I’ve burned out regcurepro.

    I’ll try the link.

  • Your CPU is 2.3ghz clock speed. There is nothing you can do to punch it up far enough.
Unreal engine 3 is fairly CPU heavy. Games, generally, don’t spread out over many cores as the game logic doesn’t work out to do that, you’d have to wait for other cores to finishing their computations before another core can take that data for example.
That being said game engines are getting better at spreading over multiple cores.

The i5-4690, for example, sits at about 3.9 ghz for 2 core usage. (3.5ghz for 4 cores). It scores 7735, your 3610QM sits at 7439. Yet for gaming the i5 absolutely smashes it out of the park.

Your GPU is also simply too weak. It’s going to struggle on even the lowest settings for an Unreal Engine 3 game.

Combine the two and you’d be lucky to break 20-30fps on a populated 24+ player server. Don’t even bother with 32 player servers.

Type this into your console next game: scale lowend

That will probably help a little.

Bottom line is, you need to buy a new PC.

For about $600 AUD (+$150 for monitor) you could build a PC that will be OK for games. Really though, you want to spend about $1000AUD for a computer than will play most games at max settings currently. (i5-4690K, r9-290x, 8 Gig 1600 ram, z97 mobo).

  • Also, Chivalry: MW (and DW) only has the general license for UDK, as such they have no access to the lower level aspects of the engine. So no changing core usage.

I agree with this statement. However you went way overboard on the recommended GPU. For someone who seems to be too cheap to buy a good gaming computer, you might scare him off with the price tag of that r9-290. There are plenty of good GPUs in the 200-300 dollar range. They may not max EVERYTHING, but they will Max most.

  • You actually only need a graphics card with a passmark of 1500 to max this game lol. Provided your CPU is good enough.

  • Yeah, look the best bang-for-buck card at the moment is easily an r9-270x. Pay for anything less and you pay too much for what you get (and have to upgrade much earlier than is efficient), pay for anything more and again you pay too much for what you get (but wont have to upgrade for longer, still inefficient though).
