Scale lowend solved jittery animations for me

  • I have had my fps uncapped to 120 for awhile now(I’m on a 60hz, but for some reason uncapping to 120 gets rid of majority of the tearing I would see when capped to 60/62), usually never drop below it, but would still see very jittery animations from everyone, so I just remember the command “scale lowend” that I had seen on these forums, wasn’t 100% sure what it’d do, but I see that it sets your res to 800x600 while setting every setting to low or off.

Low and behold, for some reason I can’t explain, all of the jittery animations that I would notice from other players had been completely rectified. Even though I was at 120fps while maxed, and the same 120fps with scale lowend, the latter is miles smooth looking. Just wondering what the reason is for this? I have since set my res back to 1080p while keeping all settings low, and I actually like the way it looks compared to maxed out so I plan to play like this, feels like a new lease on this game and the enjoyment I get from it. Just wondering if anybody had any similar experiences.

  • I should try it, the jittery animations have been around ever since summer last year for me :L

  • Could you record some 60fps+ footage displaying the smooth animations? I doubt using the command could magically upgrade the servers.
Perhaps you had a different issue than I that was solved for you.

  • Dat resolution though…

Sure, uploading…In the vid that’ll soon be up, with everything maxed before, the way people would make and swing would look very stuttery and jittery, hopefully youtube doesn’t mess with what I’m trying to show in the video.

  • Upload the raw footage btw, YouTube compresses it to 30 fps

Know a decent free host I can upload to? The vids is 345mb.

  • I’ve seen videos uploaded to this site: http://www.gamersyde.com/ in 60fps. Not sure if it’s free or whatever.

Appears to be free, uploading to it now.

edit: mkay seems to be done

I’m not even aware if the stuttery animations issue is widespread, but I used to see swings just zoom from start to finish, sometimes barely showing an animation, but ever since I’ve changed my config to scale lowend(1080p), in pretty much every server I join, it’s considerably smoother at the same framerates.

Oh, wow. That’s how Chiv looks for me normally so I wouldn’t know how it might look like on your end without the scale lowend setting.

Some weapon animations do skip a few frames, normally, like the polearms or when swings are accelerated, so I thought you were referring to that kind of thing and how the setting made them look smoother. I guess it was tons worse for you.

Btw, even if your framerate used to reach 120 fps, with settings on High or Low the key is that it should run at constant 119-120 fps. If it drops to 70-80 when there’s a lot going on your screen, animations will look very choppy.

  • Doesn’t look like they were accelerating at all, the animations usually break when people are doing dem accels, try a classic duel server next.

Also record with normal settings so we have something to compare to.
