My lighting isn't working properly on my map!

  • Hello everyone,

This is my first post on the forum, and I am really stuck here. ):

So a few months back, I decided to do a small project, and simply recycle and use the in-game assets to make a map for Medieval Warfare. The project was finished up in about 2 months, and everything seemed great. However, I have been running into a problem that many players have pointed out to me after playing my map (I had no clue it was like this for several months, because it was fine on my PC).

For some reason, my lighting does not transfer with my map to the workshop – players only see my map through unlit mode! I built the lighting, and everything multiple times within the editor, and everything works perfectly fine on my PC though.

So my question is – what am I doing incorrectly? I know the lightmaps are stored in the Content SDK directory, then ((your map name)). I even tried exporting and making copies of the lighting info and putting it in another custom package, but to no avail. I also did full recooks, and new workshop builds and nothing has changed.

Below is a video showing someone playing on my map with friends (you get to see what I mean with lighting not transferring over)
    http://youtu.be/VyLRwxBUhFc

Note – I noticed that shadows still appear, and the dominant directional lighting seems to be working within the video, or so I think? Why would this transfer over, but all the other simple lights in my level just not appear?

Thanks for anyone who takes the time to help me out!

  • I downloaded your map from steam workshop and tried it
Here are in-game screenshots on above medium setting

I think the graphics setting in that video was set to medium or low which is why it looks like there’s no lightmap.
So there is nothing wrong I think!
Also your map is really awesome nice job man you are talented

I just checked your map in the editor, why are you using toggleable pointlights and a dominantdirectionlightmoveable? Umm… don’t use those? Neither of those are fully static lights, so I guess potato settings (dynamic lights off) is killing them completely. Also you’ll probably get better performance with normal pointlights and a normal dominantdirectionallight. If you have one or two spots where you actually want a toggle light for effects, that’s fine, but don’t use them for every light.

Holy crap, I completely forgot about that! I was doing simple fade in/out effects with Kismet, and didn’t pay much attention to them, and later forgot all about that! I feel stupid now haha.

Thanks for helping me out man.

Thanks for taking time out of your day and having a look at it Glboom!

Tyler pointed out a few things I was doing that could have been the problem. I am glad this build worked on your PC though! :)

I will be updating it very soon, and hope that it fixes it for everyone!
