Lesson from real (HEMA) swordmanship

Too bad Maul headshots would probably incapacitate you instantly lol

    @SOC:

Real sword fighting isn’t so clean and clear cut, it’s messy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XxcrjeIIP4

Stolen from Crushed’s thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1ieJAcvZPU Half swording is a historical technique for fighting plate armored opponents.

(Not really deep or surprising lessons that you didn’t know before. I just find it interesting that many mechanics and tactics in Chivalry actually coincide with real swordmanship. (Nothing on dragging though :drunk:)

  • Why did you link to the same movie 4 times… >.<

Hit trades might seem like a more realistic approach, but it does however make the game more frustrating and less fun to play. It’s all up to the dev’s on what they want their game to be really. A boring semi-realistic melee fighting game. Or a fun, fantasy melee fighting game.

Feints are fine. Deal with it.

  • Chivalry is really realistic simulator and therefore this thread is very relevant.

Well…. yea… Isn’t that kinda, sorta, what this game was inspired by?

No, it’s not a simulator. I did not expect the game to resemble real swordmanship in ANY way. But it does to a certain degree, hence I found that interesting and posted the link.

Excuse me but if this wasn’t a simulator then TBS moderators wouldn’t keep these kind of threads in the game forum. Instead they would move them to off-topic.

    Checkmate.

  • I didn’t say it was a simulator. I said it’s inspired by real life sword fighting and medieval times… With flare from action movies.

So of course they’d have things like ripostes and feinting.

  • I don’t enjoy the feinting mechanic.

  • So your stance is “Chivalry has feints and real swordsmanship has feints” and that’s your sole basis for saying it’s quite like real swordfighting?

    Wat.

Flinch in release made the game frustrating and less fun. Not mention it went against the rules of the game.

Was the game boring for the first one and half years without any sort of flinch in release?

Dude. FiF makes the game 100x more enjoyable. You gonna argue that? Have you even tried it? Do you even play this game? There is a reason everybody duels as a knight you know? Whats your played time? Whats your rank? How old are you? Am I starting to suffer from to little sleep? Are dumb shits like you just driving me mad? Moderator please send help?

  • Where’s the video on reverse overheads??

I think you already know the answers to those questions. Ignore the trolling.

Yes even played the merc mod with other players. Wasn’t overwhelmed with joy. One extreme to the other. And you’d think TB would adjust all weapon values??? Even if TB tried no offence to TB but its likely to be a worse version to mercs.

The question we have to ask is Why was the game so enjoyable beforehand without caveman tactics AND without FiR. That’s how the games been for the majority of its life. No caveman meta, no FiR. Its not stupid to think back. That’s how the game will be perfect. That’s the game we all played and enjoyed. Not discussing which of these two unenjoyable things is the least unenjoyable.

Haha I’m still looking for that.

    Updated first post for contribution.

Thing is, FHF makes game more skilled. So why the hell not? Such conservationism over something bad that is this hittrade fest. FHF doesn’t even abolish hittrading, just make it harder to pull out. Explain me why hittrading spam is good gameplay mechanic, give me a reason other then “vanilla game was always this”.

  • Meh I just prefer it over FHF its less frustrating and more consistant. But that again is picking the lesser of two evils.

    I’d rather have neither.

Makes no sense to me man, what is the inconsistency in FHF?
