Quick Idea About Communication

  • I have an idea that could help foster some good communication and feedback from players. A while ago Kimiko used to do weekly updates. Those became bi-weekly, and then monthly. But what if the moderators worked together, hopefully with the cooperation of some Torn Banner staff, to do a quick little summary of the meetings you guys do between mods and devs every couple weeks.

Just a small little newsletter to let us know you’re still alive and healthy, and working on stuff. A few tidbits or teasers that can tide us over as we continue checking Official News for new threads constantly. The other benefit is that you can use this as an opportunity to ask for direct feedback on anything you may be working on at the moment, and maybe get an active discussion before going through the trouble of implementing it into a beta build.

Just some food for thought. We could call it The Daily Oy, or Oy Weekly. Pretty catchy eh?

  • Well recently they have been rather active.

But developers like keeping secrets and are generally very good at keeping them.

  • We know about as much about the game as you do :O

  • Yeah why does everyone think the moderators know shit lol.

  • Kimiko knew stuff because she was actual community manager and worked at TBS, not some lowly unpaid forum moderator.

  • Give it up, Oy.

Even when they communicate, what they say and what transpires are two different things, so I’d say given the community, this game and its developer… we’re better off in the dark.

What do you really need to know about this game anyway?

Right again. When did hexen become so wise.

But yeah TB is better off not saying anything really. Most developers are.

I disagree. Idk man, this is one genre of game that is not set in stone for now, many things will change and be added so first person melee game gets good. Torn Banner staff is known to be a bunch of noobs in game who doesn’t 360noscope with the halberd, so imo they kinda need some help from the community. I mean, great balance ideas has come from the community, why not keep talking with them? It can be productive

That’s the idea anyway. Hopefully TB gives enough of a shit that they can pass a little news down to.the mods like they used to with Kimi, and the mods can then pass it to us so that they feel important. I’d personally like to know if you guys are working on any side projects like crypts.

The community comes up with 10 solutions for a problem and can’t decide on what to do.

torn banner can decide what to do. 10 possible solutions (created mostly by veterans of the game) to pick from is better than no solution at all or solutions from inexperienced players.

The problem is “what will the other bunch say if we do it this way”. What’s “right” is a matter of opinion.

  • How about talking about what people “like” about the game? Do mod spotlights, chat with mod authors about their work, highlight fan art/videos/etc, do a small competitive community section, be creative, anything. Everyone always focuses on bugs and balance, yet we all still play almost daily. Why is that? What keeps us playing? What is so good about Chivalry? I think some positive talk about the game would be a nice change of pace. Even though a weekly news letter type thing is I think a bit tricky to pull off, I think once a month is doable. I think saying “but there is nothing to talk about, you already know everything” is approaching community interaction from the wrong perspective.

  • Half the mods are made by TB themselves lol. At least the popular ones are.
