Team Kill Stamina Drain (Solution) + Other Ideas

  • Problem:
    Current TK doesn’t really punish or deter people from carefully placing their strikes.

    Solution:
    When you attack your team mates your stamina is drained a certain amount.

    Other Ideas:
    Archer Adjustment
    Single Press then release for bow with auto zoom as you hold (gradually increases zoom while holding), saves the need for so many key binds.

    Dual wield:
    Special ability to wield both primary and secondary weapons.

    Mounts:
    Come on a medieval fight without a horse?? For balance, all thrust attacks dismount rider if timed correctly, can have player vulnerable once dismounted for certain amount of time.

    Capes:
    Award special Capes for player to wear and show off.

    Special Ability Replacement/Adjustments:
    Make dodging available to all classes, replace MOA special with VAN jumping strike, replace VAN jumping strike with straight running charge (where anyone in its path gets stabbed and forced backwards)

    Combo Finisher:
    All classes preform a 3rd strike that deals extra damage, can have a fancy ending to a combo.

    Counter Strike:
    By pressing attack at the same time an attack is parried you perform a low damage counter attack, depending on which attack you choose, including kick or shield bash, drawback being you only have 1 chance to time it right otherwise you drain extra stamina on failed attempt

    Feint Improvement + Anti Button Mash:
    Press Attack twice (Like double tap) to initiate the feint instead of Q, will prevent some button mashing with MoA. Also after Feint, if the player attacks after as in a combo, combo should continue from Second Attack Position allowing people to swing from their opposite side

    Game Modes:

    Agatha Giant:
    1 vs All similar to TF2, except 1 person is a giant maybe 15ft tall or so, has no knock back and performs 2 hit kills

    Princess Escort:
    Protect the princesses carriage, once its destroyed she is vulnerable and starts running towards the finish line, if she makes it to the castle alive escort team wins

  • Problem/Solution:
    Not a bad idea. It would make more people hesitate before swinging wildly, hoping for a kill.

    Archer Adjustment:
    What’s wrong with middle mouse button? It’s easy.

    Dual wield:
    Special ability? What do you mean? Maybe you could have two knives/daggers. But two axes/swords etc. Would be a little OP.

    Mounts:
    Torn Banner has already said they weren’t doing this, or at least not in the near future. Also, it would be too much like Mount and Blade.

    Capes:
    What if someone steps on yours? :P They plan on making helmets for this kind of thing. Veteran helmet is the only confirmed one so far. (after you unlock all of the weapons I believe.

    Special Ability Replacement/Adjustments:
    No. That’s MaAs special ability. And it should stay as his alone.

    Combo Finisher:
    They don’t really need something like this, people usually die on the second or third strike anyway. There’s really no point.

    Counter Strike:
    I like this idea, where if you follow the same path it bounces off the other weapon. But this has already been discussed. They don’t plan on adding this.

    Feint Improvement + Anti Button:
    Pressing Q is already easy. And what if you want to do a lmb lmb combo? You wouldn’t be able to do it anymore.

    Game Modes:

    Agatha Giant:
    No. They aren’t going to add magic to this game.

    Princess Escort:
    I got to admit, this would be a fun team objective, I would like to see how something like this plays out. +1

  • For every teamkill a player do on a objective/last team standing map, is a disadvantage for the entire team.

  • Cape. Give me a damned cape with RK on it, lol.

  • Hi Jake,
    Thanks for your feedback, questions and interest. You’ve asked me a number of questions, which I will try to answer/elaborate on as good as I can. Some things you mentioned are expected due to game changing mechanics, thanks for your honestly and constructiveness :)

    @Jake:

    Problem/Solution:
    Not a bad idea. It would make more people hesitate before swinging wildly, hoping for a kill.

    Cool, I had originally written 50 or so words to explain why and how it would address the issue, I’m glad you like it

    @Jake:

    Archer Adjustment:
    What’s wrong with middle mouse button? It’s easy.

    This is just a personal preference from my Quake Team Fortress days :) I customized my key layout and made parry my middle mouse, maybe I need to try default controls ;)

    @Jake:

    Dual wield:
    Special ability? What do you mean? Maybe you could have two knives/daggers. But two axes/swords etc. Would be a little OP.

    The special ability would be a perk to allow the carrying of both your primary and secondary weapons at the same time in combat, the effect would make the 2nd/4th/6th (Provided you can do a 6 hit combo :)) swing of your combo your secondary weapon.

    This ability would be more of a aesthetic skill.

    Regarding OP concern: When using two weapons on parry you will suffer a higher stamina loss for holding two weapons up (crossed), the overall damage on a 3 hit combo would be reduced, while the speed of a 3 hit combo would be slightly reduced, hopefully no adjustment to damage scaling would be needed, but I’d assume a fair amount of play testing this idea would be required.

    @Jake:

    Mounts:
    Torn Banner has already said they weren’t doing this, or at least not in the near future. Also, it would be too much like Mount and Blade.

    I understand the concern of maintaining their USP (Unique Selling Proposition), I just feel it would add another dynamic to an already exciting game, I’m sure they can come up with ways to implement a mount. Nevertheless their word is final :)

    @Jake:

    Capes:
    What if someone steps on yours? :P They plan on making helmets for this kind of thing. Veteran helmet is the only confirmed one so far. (after you unlock all of the weapons I believe.

    :) I just thought the artistic nature of a cape would be a nice touch. On the helmets, cool, I hope the reward for unlocking all weapons is worth the time :) (So many painful games sucking with weapons I’m not fond of lol.)

    @Jake:

    Special Ability Replacement/Adjustments:
    No. That’s MaAs special ability. And it should stay as his alone.

    This was more to change up the “Parry, Swing, Parry, Feint, Swing, Parry, Swing” scenario of all classes, but that’s cool, I have a major tendency to re-invent the wheel :) Even in business :D

    @Jake:

    Combo Finisher:
    They don’t really need something like this, people usually die on the second or third strike anyway. There’s really no point.

    I’ve always been a fan of fancy finishers in games that incorporate a combo system, your right in the no point thing, it would be more of a move used by advanced players to express their dominance :)

    @Jake:

    Counter Strike:
    I like this idea, where if you follow the same path it bounces off the other weapon. But this has already been discussed. They don’t plan on adding this.

    Thanks for pointing that out, it really is a shame that they aren’t looking to incorporate this to the combat system :(

    @Jake:

    Feint Improvement + Anti Button:
    Pressing Q is already easy. And what if you want to do a lmb lmb combo? You wouldn’t be able to do it anymore.

    I see your point, alternatively if it was a press and hold scenario I could see it being more user friendly, the only downside would be the use of other attacks that are bound to the mouse wheel.

    I thought of this cause while I know Q is quite simple for more advanced players, allot of people I’ve duelled don’t incorporate this tactic into their repertoire.

    Game Modes:

    @Jake:

    Agatha Giant:
    No. They aren’t going to add magic to this game.

    I guess this would be a matter of opinion, I’m a firm believer of Giants, some ancient accounts describe people the size of 10 - 14ft in height, ala Nephilim, i wasn’t meaning to signify make believe.

    @Jake:

    Princess Escort:
    I got to admit, this would be a fun team objective, I would like to see how something like this plays out. +1

    Cool, thanks again for your feedback and questions, now I’m off to dedicate more time to this video game that I’m in love with :D

    Just wish they would consider making an ancient civilization warfare game add-on :D been praying for the day someone adds “Maori warriors” into a melee combat game :)

  • @Martin:

    Cape. Give me a damned cape with RK on it, lol.

    Clan Name on Cape would be awesome :D You could distinguish your other clan members in battle :)

  • Problem/Solution:
    The stamina would have to be harsh, maybe half, for it to take any effect.

    Archer Adjustment:
    I have a gaming mouse with a lot of buttons (great for chivalry :D. I use scrolling forward for arrow view. And for  overhead I use thumb button, and stab is ring finger button. I find that easier than scrolling forward and back for different strikes. I also forgot to touch on the part about single press to release the arrow. How would you hold the arrow? You wouldn’t have much time to aim if you could only aim while drawing the bow back.

    Dual wield:
    How would you earn the perk? 5 kill streak or something? But what if you had a 2h?

    Mounts:
    It’s possible for a fan made mod for this, but it wouldn’t fit in and probably wouldn’t look good.

    Capes:
    Not fond of? Come on, all weapons are fun in their own ways if you know how to use them.

    Special Ability Replacement/Adjustments:
    The main reason I say no on this is because MaA is my favorite class. I love the dodging, but would hate if everyone could use it.

    Combo Finisher:
    Another thing I forgot to mention is that the developers said that they don’t want to add any unrealistic combos like Assassins Creed has.

    Counter Strike:
    It would probably be hard to implement, because slashing at someone has only one effect: hitting them. While parrying/blocking doesn’t hit them, it blocks their hit on you. They would have to combine the two in some way so that they could both hit and block, but the problem with that would be that they would block almost every swing. I really don’t think it could be balanced.

    Feint Improvement + Anti Button:
    Just practice. Q won’t be a problem to hit after a couple weeks.

    Agatha Giant:
    Or Goliath from a biblical standpoint. I could only see giants as being 10 feet if they were added to this game.

    Princess Escort:
    Nothing I can add to this

    Close:
    Maori warriors? I’m not sure how they could fit in tribal people, but that would be interesting to see.

  • Just going to comment on two things right now so I can get to all of these other backlogged threads:

    I disagree with any punishment for TKing except for a mirrored friendly fire server-side option. Teamkills happen, and if teamkilling someone also puts you at a disadvantage - such as draining our stamina, making it harder to fight - it hurts your team doubly so. People who TK just to grief won’t care if they lose stamina, it will not hamper their griefing.

    Counterattacks the way you describe them would make defensive play and turtling reign supreme. You can already combo a parry into an attack, and with some weapons this is already too fast to be blocked.
