Question about dynamic lights fps hit vs visibility.

  • There is an fps hit when using “dynamic lights” on. I was testing this with Fraps, and I could see a hit down to about 70fps in some scenarios, whereas not using dynamic light usually had 110-120fps.

However, when “dynamic lights” are off, it seems like you can see worse.
    Example:
    dynamic lights on - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/71 … 50520.jpg/
    dynamic lights off - http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51 … 73338.jpg/

    My question is the following:
Does turning off of dynamic lights reduce visibility of enemy players? And I don’t mean color effects, like blending in into scenery, which almost certainly happens. I mean, do enemy models get drawn less with dynamic lights off?

    Thanks.

  • 70 fps is more than enough. Just play with dynamic lights on.

I found that turning that option off makes game ridiculously ugly.

Not enough for me, I can definitely feel the difference. But I do use that option like you, because it feels like I can see better with it.

If indeed, the visibility didn’t depend on the dynamic lights though, I’d turn those off in a heartbeat - there’s no time to enjoy eye candy when chopping heads off. :D
