Criticisms of Chivalry 2 (so far)
Ducking is worthless
Despite the fact that videos and the tutorial promote ducking, it seems that most if not all of hitbox manipulation when it comes to manipulation your own hitbox through means of movement is removed.
What I mean by this is leaning, ducking, and dodging by proxy of bending at the waist to manipulate your hitbox. Chivalry invented this mechanic. It is in Mordhau and Mirage as well.
If you try and look down while ducking it actually does not make your torso lower at all. If you look up it doesn’t seem to bend your back at all. This makes ducking at high-level play almost completely useless because rather than duck under someone’s attacks, you’re only putting their blade at head level.
To clarify, it isn’t like looking down or up doesn’t move your hitbox at all, it just seems that the range at which you can move your character’s body is significantly reduced to the point where leaning, dynamic dodging, and ducking by looking down and crouching simultaneously are all borderline useless against other players who understand the extent of the mechanics as well.
At the end of the day, Chivalry 2 allows for ducking, but at a fixed height. You cannot adjust the height, lean back, lean down, or any matter of manipulation for further complexity. I would not detest this change to the degree that I do if the height of the new duck wasn’t so tall. I tried ducking under the horizontal swings of bots, and it is literally impossible.
Ducking is supposed to be a mechanic that can be used as the ultimate style move, which not only allows you to retaliate without wasting stamina, but look cool while doing it. In Chivalry 2, because the crouch height cannot be altered and it is unnecessarily tall, this won’t be common if used at all.
Ambusher is the weakest subclass in the game
We all know it, so rather than explaining in detail why he is so incredibly weak by reiterating everyone else’s points, I will just suggest some changes that could make him better. You could implement all of them, a few, or even just one, but anything would be better than what we have now.
- Allow the Quiver ability to replenish bandages
- Make the Quiver ability replenish ammunition for all teammates in the surrounding area
- Rather than having increased backstab damage (borderline useless) have a passive that increases special and sprinting attack damage.
- Add a new passive that increases run speed with one handed weapons (allows the Ambusher to get into position easier)
This is more of a suggestion than a criticism, but with how much customization there is in the game, an option should be added to make presets with the decided voice, armor, faces, weapon skins, and everything else that can be altered. This would allow people to make multiple characters in the same class, rather than having a single Agathian Vanguard, or a single Mason Knight.
Regardless, I think this small change would be a nice addition, but if it were not added I would not lose sleep.
Overall I have few issues with the game, but the two main issues I do have are quite staggering and affect gameplay greatly. I hope that a compromise can be reached, or the issues be resolved entirely. If any of you disagree I would love to hear why, thank you.

I agree about the rigidity of movement in Chivalry 2. It is a step back from Chivalry 1 sadly. Possibly this was their intention though to fit with the style of combat.
Regarding classes. I have only tried a few…
Archer aka Crossbow + healing banner feels a bit op but hey if devs want to leave it i will have a lot of fun playing it.
This is considering also has less HP but you can still do ok in melee.
Footman class is a bit meh. Doesnt look as good as the other classes imo. Man at arms basically useless. Such a damn shame as that was very much a different playstyle in Chivalry 1.
Vanguard is ok but no spear or brandi which is a shame.
Best melee class in looks and combat feel for me is Knight. Looks bad ass awesome with all the coolest armours and has some nice bonuses (healing horn)
However i could never use the tackle skill i think it is currently bugged for me no idea why.
The customization feels a bit more restricted than both Chivalry 1 and Mordhau in terms of how your player looks which is a shame. You cant customize colours much at all on your player using heraldry. There also seems to be less heraldry options…no more Dragon :(
I think after the game launches we will see spinners. I just have a feeling…hope im wrong.
editL ahh almost forgot…bowing is gone…not even there as an emote which i just do not understand at all…its odd that the devs would forget this or not bother about it…so im thinking maybe it is in the game but locked to a certain rank???

I like the combat actually just its broken. The blocks sometimes won’t work after you have swung. Some hits go through people and do no damage. It just seems super casual with no skill. I don’t mind a casual game as long as it has some depth in it but it does not in this case. As for a lot of the classes, fav classes for me were the knight and occasionally Field Engineer with the borderline broken shovel. Yes, the shovel imho after so many hours of the beta is nr1 my fav and most op weapon, but not in duels, more in group fighting as its stam is too low. It can 2-3 hit all classes, swing faster than a knife and dagger (I tested) the overhead swings also instant hit instead of having any windup, meaning if you do a heavy overhead its still faster than someone’s accelled swing.
Just… fix the combat and then lets talk about what class is good or bad, right now like he said ^ the knight seems the best.
Archer class I am good with too as it too is so strong. The other classes are eh… Archer class I once got more than +60 kills and I am not a great shot in any medieval game or fps shooters and I somehow scored more kills by just shooting, replenishing ammo, and running away when attacked as my team saves me. And even if I melee I had so much hp that I often in a 1v1 came up on top as the Archer weapon the Knife is actually not a bad weapon so although I am good as an archer class I think it is unjustified as I have no skill in archery and somehow seem to be amazing at it with minimal good aim. Maybe nerf or… maybe make the archer not so bloody tanky where I can tank 3-4 hits and still run off xd
