Map Rotation



  • So I’ve never operated a server before, bear with me. I read/viewed the Server guide PDF in the sticky, and understand where to change the rotation, just not how. I have changed the server name and a few other settings such as vote kicks successfully, but the map rotation doesn’t seem to work. For the MapList, there are two - MapList, and MapList[#] - do I change both, or change one? Does it matter how many are in rotation, and when the last finishes, does the rotation automatically restart?

    The map rotation you are looking for is in the DefaultGame.ini that looks like this:

    You can just remove the unwanted maps and make sure to change the numbers so that they are in order like so (this is an example of an FFA server):

    You can add as many as you want I believe.

    This is the only section that I have changed besides server name and such. Did not change the MapList (without the [#]). TO Battlegrounds was fine…then it took the game to King of the Hill in the Hillside map.

    Any ideas??

  • After you make the change you have to do a server restart for the effects to happen, did you do that?



  • I have been changing the DefaultGame.ini on my servers and that changes the map rotation. The PCServer-UDKGame.ini doesn’t do anything. It’s weird. The only thing I use that for is autobalance and PLOCK variables.

      ?

    • Are you running with the executable from the dedicated server files, or did you use UDK.exe from the client? Are you using the dedicated server files at all, or running this off a full client install?



  • Erm I see now where I messed up. I forgot to add the subfolder where i have the server configs.
    Its a steam dedicated server.

    I think that pretty much sums up how important getting full FTP access from a GSP really is.

    While I understand that aspect, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to change it with access to the file.

    I did notice that for some reason the MapList[0] got left out so maybe it was defaulting to the normal rotation…I added that and will see if that makes a difference.



  • I seem to be having the same issue. I want my server to only load one map so I’ve added it to the startup command line and added it to the PCServer-UDKGame.ini. I noticed that today, once again, it is on another map that I have not specified.

    Command line (dedicated server files):

    The reason there are so many Maplist lines is because when we left it empty or just 1 line it did the same thing so we tried adding more lines and it still doesn’t work. I could be wrong but it appears to use this maplist then randomly load another one instead of restarting from the top of the list. I haven’t sat through all the map cycles so I don’t know this for sure. I’m going to try looking at some of the other configs but shouldn’t this be correct?



  • Just had it cycle to KOTH after the intial TO at Battlegrounds…still not working. My MapListIndex is after my MapList[#] unlike yours above too ^. Not sure if that is right on my end or if it matters.



  • So I have FTP access and changed the files and nothing.



  • I saw that you mentioned this server is from GTSgaming, have you tried contacting their support? They should be helping you with this. Otherwise maybe ask for a refund?
