Nerf norse sword



  • Dane Axe is definitely the second best MaA weapon, IMO. Falchion, Hatchet and possibly the Mace and Morning Star are usable as well. Overall though, MaA weapons that aren’t Norse Sword need improvements and the Norse needs to be brought down to their level in turn.

    Also continuing my crusade to have MaA weapons removed from the Knight.

    Are you guys doing any changes to feints or animations? I’d really like to see some improvements so you can actually react instead of guessing.



  • I agree.

    I mostly play MAA and Archer lately, both classes are very fun and have a pretty high skillcap. That said, some of its weapons are clearly too strong: the Norse Sword and the Warbow.

    The reasons NS is OP are already listed in this thread, so I’ll talk on the warbow. It is easy to shoot, does tons of damage and has enough ammo that you don’t need to care about that. You can score just as much as any other class while dying less. It changes the archer role from support to ranged carry, which hurts a game centered around melee. Also, it is so much better than other archer weapons that there’s no point in using them.

    So, nerf Norse Sword and Warbow!

    I agree with pretty much everything balance wise you ever say about this game.

    Except knights need MaA weapons, and Vanguards need maces instead of short swords.

    The problem isn’t that knight has access to MaA weapons. The problem is the Norse sword is OP.

    While people want a nerf for the Norse sword, your only other alternative is to wait for an opening, spam (which everyone hates), and back off to do it again. The Norse Sword is the only weapon that makes efficient use of whatever range the MaA has in his favor.

  • I personally play MAA almost exclusively and I also agree the NORSE sword needs to be nerfed. BTW, The class is not underpowered i can’t believe those discussions are still going on.

    If you’re waiting for an opening and backing off, you aren’t spamming.

    Improvements like giving the War Axe enough damage to kill a Knight in 2 hits so it actually is the MaA’s most powerful single strike damage as the description implies, better combo speed for maces so comboing with them is actually worth it as I believe that’s how maces were intended to be used, and doing something with the broadsword.

    Really current damage values for weapons in general make it difficult to balance so many weapons since everything is generally a 2-3 hit kill, meaning the only stats that really matter are speed, reach, and hits-to-kill. It doesn’t matter at all that the War Axe does slightly more damage than the Dane Axe and Hatchet, because it’s the same # of hits to kill in any circumstance and the Hatchet has a huge speed advantage while the Dane Axe has great reach for a MaA weapon. Even increasing the War Axe’s damage enough that it can 2 shot a knight with accurate headshots only gives it a very very slight niche; and if you increase it enough to 2 shot a knight without requiring headshots, it now one-shots MaA with a headshot, which is just plain over the top.

    It’s a lot easier to balance gun games because it’s possible to land 10 hits on someone in a very short period of time - so fire rate, effective range, accuracy, and damage are all key factors. If it took 10 hits to kill someone in Chivalry, the gameplay would either be extremely slow and dull, or extremely fast and unapproachable for new players.

    Just change how feint is working right now and make stab motions more noticeable.

    Here’s a simple way to stab motion: Make the resting pose more identifiable. Right now, MAA, Vanguards and Knights lower their weapon to their sides when resting. Make them hold their sword up like you see in your own screen. Make that the same for every weapon, instead of having them similar to stabbing positions.

    Then, for feints, instead of making the feint animation go back to the beginning of the windup animation, make it go to the resting position.

    Also, only allow feints for half of the windup position, and not throughout the whole thing. What I mean is: If a weapon has 0.4 windup time, don’t let feint to be used at 0.39 of the windup. Only let it happen upto 0.2 of windup time (for example). This way, you only get hit if you reacted too early.

  • Nerf Norse Sword… Awesome. The MaA is not OP. The sword is not OP. People are just idiots and can’t learn to play against them. MaA is the 1v1 god. Counter him by 2v1.
    Also if it’s the damage which people are bitching about, how is it balanced by nerfing it. The Vanguard and Knight are both a lot tanker than the MaA and can do more damage….



  • I swear all I hear is babies crying about EVERY LITTLE THING about the game. You want to counter a MAA? SWITCH TO YOUR GOD DAMN SECONDARY! If you stick with your primary fighting a MAA then you DESERVE to be humiliated. People that play this game just CAN NOT analyze a fight. They KNOW that they will get bested with their slow 2h weapons but they go in anyway. To the people that do this. GTFO or learn to…. DODGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
