Help Requuest: Server Unavailable - Not showing up in game



  • Hello,

    I have been playing around with this for some time and did a lot of trial and error with the target code.

    I can start a server and see it in Steam as a LAN server. However, noone from the internet can join if I invite them to the game. It says server status is unvailable. The server never shows up in the in game server list either. I even went as far as opening up all ports in the firewalls to test and it still doesn’t work for others to join if I invite them in steam.

    These forums have no clear write up on what to do so please assist.

  • What IP are you giving/using to join your server? where are you getting this ip?



  • I can join the server through steam but it’s a LAN private class C IP address. What I see that is weird is that when I join the game via Steam LAN window; and in the game I hit [Tab] I see at the top right that I am playing at 153.x.x.x, and the next time says 180.x.x.x… It seems that steam is allocating a seperate public or Natted IP for the server. However, it never shows my public IP in the window.

    If I try using -multihome=public IP then it doesn’t work in either internet or LAN.

    I also have a few domains and websites that I host and playing around with host files, etc… doesn’t work.

    the ports on incoming WAN are being directed/NATed to the local IP

    Is there a .ini file that we can edit with host or IP information of the server?



  • not that I have found yet. My server was workign for the net yesterday when I had some random guy join, but today I can only get access threw lan and it is rather annoying. I have Chiv running on a laptop and I can connect if I use my local ip (192.168.x.x) but not my public http://www.whatismyip.com/

    Though, If i’m playing chiv on the same computer i can connect via loop back ip(127.0.0.1), local ip, or public Ip. Ocasionally it will appear on the public server list but It seems for me to even be able to connect to it I need steam running( which from what I understand it is suppose to be able to run without steam but it doesn’t) It runs great for lan, but no internet here so far. I’ll keep checking back

    BTW the IP displayed on the TAB screen in game is the steamsocket IP so no matter what that IP ISNT the one you want to hand out, From what I understand that is steam network only.

  • I’m experiancing a similar issue as described here.
    Surprisingly most people besides me seem to be able to view my server and to connect to it, I guess this is somehow caused by me trying to play on the same machine as the server is hosted on.
    Nevertheless a few people remain unable to connect to my server.

    @Warking:

    If I try using -multihome=public IP then it doesn’t work in either internet or LAN.

    Multihome has nothing to do with your external IP, it is used when dealing with multiple interfaces on the server machine.
    If you use an IP that is not bound to the server machine (i.e. your external IP) you should get a socket error when starting up the server. You can see the error by using UDKLogging.exe instead of UDK.exe.
    The server tries to bind the listen socket to that IP and fails, default listen port is 7777.



  • So with a bit of help I got it working.

    Download the steam dedicated server

    Edit \Steam\steamapps\common\chivalry_ded_server\UDKGame\Config\PCServer-UDKGame.ini

    edit servername, password, max players, maps…

    add a .bat file in the binaries/win32 directory with nothing but the following:
    UDKgame.exe AOCTO-Stoneshill_P?steamsockets -seekfreeloadingserver -multihome=192.168.1.46 your local IP for the server

    Open TCP and UDP ports for 7777, 7778, 27015 and have them pointing to your server. Disable windows firewall.

    in steam under servers and favorites. Add “publicIP:27015”

    run the .bat file that is in the binaries/win32 directory to start your server



  • Chivalry Server Setup Tips

    Note: Steps 1-3 are easiest to follow if you are using Windows 8 & Frontier ISP w/ stock router. If you are on XP/Windows 7 or using netgear/linksys routers some of the steps may be different, but the process should be similar.

    1. Setup port forwarding in router

    • Open your router settings (i.e. open a browser >> go to local IP of your computer directly connected to router (192.168.1.1) >> login)

    • Find your port forwarding settings (i.e. Advanced Tab >> Port Forwarding Rules)

    • Setup a port forward service for chivalry (i.e. Click Add >> Service Name: Chivalry)

    • Add Server ports
      TCP Any -> 27015
      UDP Any -> 27015
      TCP Any -> 7777
      UDP Any -> 7777
      TCP Any -> 7778
      UDP Any -> 7778

    • Save/Apply

    Step 1 Notes

    • Originally, I was attempting to use this type of scheme 27015(src) -> 27015(dst) for all the ports. For some reason, I had to change the src port to “Any” for the port forwards. Otherwise, my Chivalry server wouldn’t show up in the Steam Favorites/LAN tab. I have a bad feeling that my current Any->PORT# port forwarding is not cool, maybe someone can enlighten me as how to configure a src/dst on port forwarding. I think some router admin interfaces don’t even provide options for src/dst port and it’s just dst. So maybe my setup is ok. Maybe it’s just a Frontier thing.

    2. Configure firewall settings in router

    • Find router firewall settings >> then port forwarding

    • Create new port forwarding rule >> select the IP address for your Chivalry Machine & Select the “Chivalry” port forward service from Step 1

    • Add/Save

    3. Open the ports in Windows Firewall

    • Go to Control Panel >> System and Security >> Windows Firewall >> Advanced Settings

    • Go to Inbound Rules >> Add Rule >> Port >> TCP (Specific Local Ports: 7777, 7778, 27015) >> Name: Chivalry TCP

    • Go to Inbound Rules >> Add Rule >> Port >> UDP (Specific Local Ports: 7777, 7778, 27015) >> Name: Chivalry UDP

    4.Install the Chivalry Server:

    • Go to Steam >> Library >> “All Games” drop menu (next to the search box) >> Tools

    • Find Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Dedicated Server

    • Right-click >> Install Game

    5.Configure Chivalry Server Settings:

    • Using a custom server name is important to help your friends find your server from the in-game server list

    6.Make a server launcher (ChivalryServer.bat):

    • Open notepad/notepadd++ >> copy/paste this text:

    • I had no luck with using MAPNAME?steamsockets…I could see my server show up in steam server LAN/Favorites tab, but it wouldn’t let me connect to it in game with “open 127.0.0.1?password=******”

    • The options: -Port=7777 -QueryPort=27015 didn’t seem to make a difference. I was able to connect to my server with game client on the same machine with and without these.

    7. Double click on ChivalryServer.bat

    • A terminal window will open, with your command text, then another terminal will open the server process

    8. Verify that Steam recognizes your server

    • Go to Steam >> View (menu) >> Servers >> Favorites

    • Add Server (button in lower right corner)

    • Enter address: PUBLICIP:27015

    • In the game column, if it shows text: <not responding="">and your server is running, then either your Chivalry server is not running or there’s an issue with your port-forwarding.</not>

    9. Connect to your own server

    • Open the game client: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare

    • Open the in-game console by pressing tilde “~”

    • Type: “open 127.0.0.1?password=****” or if you have no password, then just “open 127.0.0.1”

    • The game client should now connect to your server

    • To login as admin, open console with ~, then type: “AdminLogin YOURADMINPASSWORD”

    • You will get a console message: “USERNAME logged in as server administrator”

    Step 9 Notes:

    • I’m only able to connect to my own server via the in-game console “open” command. My server still does not appear in the in game server list. I’ve seen around the forums that it may take up to 5-10 minutes for the server name to appear in the in-game server list or it’s possible that the server machine is not allowed to see itself in the in-game client list. Other people should be able to see the server in the in-game server list just fine.

    • If you type the open command, and nothing happens, this likely means that you are using “steamsockets” or the server is not running. Instead use “dedicated=true” in .bat launcher and make sure your server is running.

    • Anytime you tweak settings in your .bat or your ini files, you must close the server command line windows and start the server again

    10. Get your friends to join your server

    • Send your friends the command to connect to your server in-game console: open PUBLICIP?password=****

    Hope this helps. I’m very new to game server setups. It took me a while to get things up and running with tweaking settings.

    Tho i did open all my ports and the funny thing it is worked yestarday and now when i get up 6 hours later its not working…
    So what could be the problem?

    I am attaching for u or anybody the documents, the bat file, and a few pictures jsut to show i think everything is in the right place and its still not working!
