Chivalry won't start (Steam)



  • Good afternoon,

    today I bought myself Chivalry Medieval Warfare over Steam.

    I tried to start it with the icon on the desktop, from the libary and with UDK.exe in the directory.

    So I tried all the steps which would fit my problem from the “Read first: …” thread. But nothing worked.
    These I tried
    (1) My game crashes without any error! (or an error talking about the SHA)
    (2) I can’t start the game. When I try to start UDK.exe directly, I get an error like “x3daudio1_7.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.”
    (3) When I try to start UDK.exe directly, I get an error like “Unable to load Jit Compiler: (clrjit.dll) file may be missing or corrupt.”
    (4) The game crashes with “Failed to create the D3D9 Device! This can happen if the desktop is locked. Exiting…”; or the game minimizes and can’t be reopened
    nothing helped.

    What happens after I start the game. Well after starting the nice rectangular screen appears in the middle of the desktop. First my PC makes some loading sounds and the light is flickering and after some seconds it’s all quite. So I check my task-manager and realize that the program is “not responding”. I kill the process-tree and tried it again.

    Some system information:
    Win7 (64 bit)
    Intel Core Quad CPU Q6600 2,4 GHz
    4 GB RAM
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti

    I also attached the Launch.log.
    But I couldn’t find the unreal-**********.dmp file.

    I hope still someone can help me to solve the problem. Thank you.

  • We solved a similar problem to this earlier today. Find the dll that it says to be missing in your sytem32 and syswow64 folders, rename them to something else (like add ‘backup’ to the end of them) and keep them in those folders as backups, then try running the UERedist.exe from “C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\Binaries\Redist” to have it reinstall directx.

    If this doesn’t work, try downloading DirectX updater from here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35&wt.mc_id=mscom_en_us_search_mssuggests_131z4enus22051.

    If this doesn’t work, you can manually download the file from a site like http://www.dll-files.com/ and copy it into both system32 and syswow64.

    Let us know if the first works, if not, if the second works, if not, if the third works.

    thanks for your replay.

    My slight problem is, that I don’t get any error-message. It just stops loading/launching the game and in the task-manager after about 1 second it changes to “not responding” then I have to kill the process.

    I don’t get any .dll error messages. DirextX is already uptodate (I downloaded it from the microsoft link and tried to install it. It told me I already have a higher version).

    Before the link from Microsoft I already tried it with the DXSETUP.exe from …\chivalrymedievalwarfare\Binaries\RedistChiv\DXRedistCutdown.

    So it doesn’t pop up a message saying that the game crashed?



  • The same thing happens to me on XP(Package 3) , don’t know why it doesn’t want to start, it may be though that the GeForce graphics card on my computer was removed (caused a game called Super Monday Night Combat not to start) and I think this may be the reason for me though, if not I’ll have to look into this.

    PS: A message does not pop up when it happens, it just pops up with the steam game start-up box and then it just disappears POOF

    Since you manually terminated the program, I don’t think that you will get a .dmp.

    Post a DxDiag.txt. Does the game crash or just hang?



  • I don’t know if it really crashes or hangs, the Steam load-up just disappears and nothing in the Processes list shows up that is related to Chivalry.

    Does Steam say that you are in game? Would you please post a Launch.log from Documents\My Games\Chivalry Medieval Warfare\UDKGame\Logs?



  • Hrm…. actually, there’s only 2 games in that and neither of them are Chivalry.



  • I’m going to see if putting my graphics card back in fixes the problem, my brother reminded me that it fixed my previous problem where a Steam game wouldn’t start.



  • Ah. Found that UDKGame thing you were talking about, I can’t find anything on logs in it though.

    So it doesn’t pop up a message saying that the game crashed?

    No problem Remixx.

    Right nothing pops up. It just stops responding. When I’m at home in the afternoon I will attach a screenshot how it looks like.



  • Mine doesn’t stop responding, it just completely goes away each time I try to start it up. Also, I would input a log but I can’t find it in my chivalry files. I know it’s in the UDKGame folder but I don’t see it.



  • There is a launch program in the Chivalry files and when I go to use it it says “This application has failed to start because MSVCR100.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem”. The Steam shortcut never said anything about that. I’ll uninstall then reinstall Chivalry and see if that works, such an awsome game to not be able to play.

    EDIT: Launch is a MS-DOS Batch File.

    I don’t have the Logs part, no.

    It only shows me Config, CookedPCConsole, Localization, and Splash.
