'Udx.exe is not responding' error

  • Hi,

So I bought the game over steam and couldn’t get it started. I then did the fix with the 3 files and now the game starts but crashes on the main menu or loading screen.

I checked around and appearantly it’s a well known problem but none of the suggested fixes seem to work.

Anyone got an idea what the problem is, and more important how to fix it?

    DxDiag in attachement.

The usual solution to this (and I hope that it works for you) is to going to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\Binaries\RedistChiv in Windows Explorer. Run the two vcredist executable files. Then go into DXRedistCutdown and run DXSETUP.exe.

Then try playing Chiv again from Steam.

    This may help you.

I believe that’s what he meant by the 3 files that he ran.

Do you have a dedicated video card or only the Intel chip? Your Intel graphics drivers should be updated too.

  • Yes, that’s what I meant.

And no, it’s only the Intel chip I’m afraid. I just finished updating everything but the problem persists.

  • Could you please attach a new DxDiag.txt and a Launch.log?

  • Here’s the DxDiag, I don’t know how to get you a launch.log however.

  • Found it

  • From the Launch.log…

    Woah. That’s a new one.

It looks like your Intel graphics drivers are still out of date:

    Driver File Version: 8.15.0010.2372 (English)
         Driver Version: 8.15.10.2372
            DDI Version: 10.1

      Driver Attributes: Final Retail

Whereas the newest one from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3319&DwnldID=22082&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct=2nd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+3000%2f2000&DownloadType=Drivers&lang=eng is:

  • Alrighty, so I installed the new drivers, and it keeps crashing.
But I took a second or 4 longer then normal before it crashed, so it’s slightly better ;)

I guess you need the dxdiag and launch.log again then.

  • Also, some of the text on the logs is in dutch, should you need some translations or so. Let me know.

  • Have you tried verifying the integrity of your game cache through Steam?

Have you tried this solution? viewtopic.php?f=69&t=6174

  • Yes, no luck however :(

  • Ok would you please go into Windows Event Viewer (search for Event Viewer in the start menu search box), then click on Windows Logs in the left and then the Application subcategory. Find the latest event related to UDK.exe in the middle-top panel. Then copy the details from the big middle panel into a reply here so we can see what this crash is all about.

  • It’s the nasty kernelbase.dll problem. Try this again for a sanity check? viewtopic.php?f=69&t=6174

  • Tried it, didn’t work. :/

  • Okay, try the suggestions in this post (#25 in the thread): http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=27582634&postcount=25. It’s a different game, but same engine. Just swap out BoulderGame for either UDK or Chivalry depending on what you see as you navigate Windows Explorer.

  • It lasted a few seconds longer, but still crashed I’m afraid. :/

Thanks for helping by the way.

  • Running out of ideas… can you check the Dutch Dell website to see if it has a newer version of the audio driver? The US site has a newer version, but I’m not sure if that’s compatible.

    You have:

     Description: Luidsprekers (Conexant SmartAudio HD)
     Default Sound Playback: Yes
     Default Voice Playback: Yes
                Hardware ID: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_14F1&DEV_506E&SUBSYS_1028051B&REV_1000
            Manufacturer ID: 1
                 Product ID: 100
                       Type: WDM
                Driver Name: CHDRT64.sys
             Driver Version: 8.54.0016.0000 (Dutch)
          Driver Attributes: Final Retail
                WHQL Logo'd: Yes
              Date and Size: 6/10/2011 20:04:38, 1591936 bytes

    The newest US version is:

    Release Date: 8/4/2011
    Importance: Recommended
    Version:	8.54.13.40, A01

The driver date is newer on the US version, but it looks like the driver version may be older? That’s why I ask to check the Dutch version.

  • Ah man this is torture, I installed the new driver, restarted. I then started the training mode and the cutscene went on for a full 10 seconds or so before crashing again.
