Game Crashes On Startup

  • So i just bought this today during the steam sale and was really excited to play. However it crashes every time on start up. I tried deleting the folder, Running as Admin, Verifying the cache, re installing and all the other solutions. I really don’t want this money to go to waste… Help please!

    Here are my specs:
    Intel® Core™ i3 CPU @ 2.93 GHz, 2933 Mhz, 2 core(s)
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Radeon X1650 Pro
    6 GB RAM

I know the GPU is not up to terms but it works for me.
Heres a picture of the crash: http://i.imgur.com/P9lvb.jpg

  • Hi BoltActionRick,

Unfortunately that GPU will not be able to play the game at all. I believe this is due to the requirement of Shader Model 4.0/unified shaders which are present in AMD Radeon HD 3800+ models. Sorry :(

  • So what you’re telling me is that because my card doesn’t meet a shader version i cant run it? Thats complete shit. Even with that, that wont cause my game to crash? I mean look at all the posts about the crash. Everyone’s getting it. The only think you are doing to try and help is blame it on a hardware issue. Nice job with customer service.

Well you know what would be even better? List all the system requirements!

  • The system requirements have been listed long before release:

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/219640/

  • Listed minimum specs GPU - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.p … on+HD+3870

    Your GPU - http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.p … +X1650+Pro

I’m sorry you can’t play the game, but the specs are clearly listed, and you are considerably beneath them; you can’t really fault the game because you didn’t do any research before buying it.

And there are a lot of things that can cause a crash. “udk.exe has stopped working” just means the game has crashed. It isn’t a specific crash. Everyone having a crash issue isn’t having your specific issue.

There’s nothing I know of that will let you run the game short of buying a new video card. I don’t know what kind of mobo or PSU you’re using, but generally there are no compatibility issues with GPUs as long as you meet the power requirements and don’t have some ancient motherboard without PCIe support, so if you feel like upgrading your system I’d recommend investing $60 into a GeForce GT 640 - it’s probably the best budget card on the market with the same power requirements as your current card (350W). A GPU is the second easiest component to install after RAM, you pretty much just open your case, pop the old one out and pop the new one in.

I would recommend upgrading if you have the cash to spare. The card you’re using right now only supports DX9 and OpenGL 2.0 in addition to the shader model issue - so Chivalry won’t be the last game you’ll have issues with in the very near future if you don’t replace it soon.

AH hahahahahaha This made my night. Thanks for the laugh!

I’d suggest taking a PC Hardware Fundamentals course at your community college. Maybe you’ll learn a thing or two about why you need the proper graphics card to run graphical games.

    Haha, Thanks again though!

That wasn’t nice JHoersten2. Behave yourself.
