Limited Weapons Server: Can it be done?

  • Ok forgive me if this has been suggested before now; in my opinion, it’s such a blatantly obvious idea it must have been.

Everyone likes a good fist fight; right? But it’s annoying getting hammered by a maul in the middle of it; right?

Knife fights, ditto above + you can’t help the default to primary weapon when you run out of throwing knifes.

    Solution: Limited Weapon Server

I’m not taking credit for this; Slaughtervomit mentioned it in response to my waffling on about knife fights, I’ve only just clocked on to the idea.

Question is can it be done?

  • There is a cvar for fists only (but I don’t know it off the top of my head), I’m sure it can easily be converted into allowing server-set limitations.

  • A good question to go along with this: Is it possible to allow infinite ammo for ranged weapons like javs/oil pots/knives/ect.?

Limiting the weaponry to something ranged could be quite interesting also if infinite ammo was allowed.

Thank you for the recognition, by the way, Reginhard. :)

Thanks for that Martin; Sadly, I’m virtually illiterate in these matters and have no idea what a cvar is (is it just an abbreviation of server perhaps? or a specific type of server? do forgive my ignorance). I’ll mention your comments to our server administrator who is best placed to understand.

Kindly let me know if the conversion is possible and we will set up a server to accommodate.

Thank you for the recognition, by the way, Reginhard.

Credit where credits due Slaughtervomit, I’ll see what can be achieved with limited weapons and if all goes well I’ll investigate your ideas.

  • Be a great idea, Knife fights are like sword fights but in 3x speed.
Spear fights are also pretty awesome

I have to apologise, I was wrong about the fists only. It turns out it was a cvar (which is just a console variable you set to enable/disable something) to disable fists completely and I got confused, sorry.

    No worries.

I’m not sure if I’m correctly reading your post; does this mean that you couldn’t disable something like secondary weapons?

  • Currently not possible. The disabling fists cvar was just uniquely added when fists were added to the game so if you didn’t want fists on your server, you could get rid of it. I’ll see if we can suggest something about limiting weapons for server owners for modding/event purposes to the Devs but it won’t make the next patch.

Got it that makes sense, thank you. The knighthood are in the process of setting our own server (currently we use Multiplay), so we would be happy to do what we can at our end when the Devs are ready.

Just to reiterate what we currently have in mind:-

    1. The ability to limited weapons to just none i.e. just fists and kicks = fist fights.

    2. The ability to disable primary weapons (forgive me I did previously say secondary in error) = knife fights.

Thanks for your support for this suggestion.

  • I want someone to create a fists only server. It needs to happen.

That we will Sir, as soon as it is possible we will do it. Knife fight server as well. Chances are we will do one week fists next week knifes.

and the next week infinite ammo oil pots!

My word is my bond! lol.

Good that Martin can see the logic let’s hope the Devs can make it happen.

I have been thinking about the further possibilities that server tweaks could provide. I really don’t understand the programming but another Knighthood member has a pretty good take on the subject so I’m thinking about a new thread to see what people would want to vary if they could. I.e. what sort of weapons limits or ammo enhancements (or reductions) would lead to what sort of specialist fights. Then it’s just case of working out what level of server flexibility will satisfy the suggestions.

That said; I could be talking sh**e due to not really understanding how all this could happen.
