Crouching, Vangaurd leap, Hit Detection

  • I have some questions about the viability of crouching.

    1. Is it possible to crouch under horizontal swings?
    2. Does crouching slow down attack speed?
    3. Sometimes when you are killed in the crouching position your body will go into the death animation as if you were standing. Is there a plan to fix this?
    4. Why is it impossible to regain stamina while crouching?

    ?'s about Vanguard leap
    1. Why does the leap seem to be so inconsistent? One minute I can charge someone and be avoided easily and the next minute I can just barely hit someone or multiple people and kill them instantly.

    ?'s about hit detection
    1. When someone swings a claymore, for example, does the attack deal more damage at the climax or middle of the swing? Does damage drop off near the end of the swing as it slows down? I know I’ve been mauled by many attacks near the end of the swing and it seems a little odd.

    2. Weapons respond well when interrupted by random objects like walls. Why do attacks seem to cut right through enemies rather than ‘rebound’ off them? I would imagine and overhead swing would strike armour and bounce off perhaps back to the starting position allowing for repeating swings.

    3. Is damage lowered when struck with the hilt or pole of a weapon? Why does it seem that damage isn’t limited to the ‘damage dealing portion’ of the weapon such as the blade or tip?

    4. Is a better collision system planned for the future?

    1. Is it possible to crouch under horizontal swings?

Yes but this is hard. If he is aiming for your head then this is possible. If hes aiming for your torso, you will most likely get hit even if you crouch.

    2. Does crouching slow down attack speed?

    No

    3. Sometimes when you are killed in the crouching position your body will go into the death animation as if you were standing. Is there a plan to fix this?

Happens. Dunno if they gonna fix. Torn banner are really lazy and don’t really give a fuck about doing anything cool atm since the game has already been a success and it’s still growing slowly due to the people who wanna play it. They are like Blizzard Entertainment, fucktard scumbags who are boring and really non-passionate towards their community.

    4. Why is it impossible to regain stamina while crouching?
    **
Because you are crouching. You aren’t resting. It’s logical. When you crouch you take a ‘‘athletic’’ position if you look at the characters when they do it, and they also hold their weapon while doing it etc. I think it’s good that you can’t regen stamina while crouching because you are harder to hit overall when crouched since you look smaller and what not.**

Vanguard charge attack is broken, that’s it.

    Same damage all the time.

This would make the game more gimmicky and annoying. It’s not needed. It would probably add more confusion.

    4. Is a better collision system planned for the future?
    Dunno, Ask lazy ass studios.

Answered to the best of my ability! Enjoy!

  • Helpful hint for point #1: ducking.

Look downwards (with your mouse) as you crouch. Your character model will look downwards as well, leaning his torso forward as would of course be necessary. When crouched, this gives you this really wonky-looking model where your knees are almost higher than your head BUT… this overall makes your model FAR smaller and it’s easier to avoid sideswings or stabs. There are many players who have mastered this. It’s very much “oh where’d he go oh hey 3 feet of steel in my chest.” If you don’t look downwards, the most your model will do is bend his knees in athletic position which generally doesn’t get you low enough to duck the sideswing as intended.

Downsides: still no protection from overheads. If you don’t time it right players can still adjust their swing and hit you. Looking goofy to other players or yourself if you play 3rd person. If you play first person, your view of the enemy is temporarily removed (because, obviously, you’re staring at the floor). This can be potentially fatal.

Another tip for crouching if you don’t want to risk looking away from your opponent in a fight: stop moving when you duck. If you crouch while moving your character only really drops like 6 inches (making it really only work if they’re aimed at your head), if you crouch while stationary he drops at LEAST double if not more (making it viable if they’re swinging at anything from your nips up). lol @ nips.

For reference go stand next to something with marks on it or someone and change to 3rd person. Duck while moving to see how low you get compared to what/who you’re next to, then duck while stationary to see how much lower you go.

Torn banner aren’t lazy, their a virtual team of 15 members from all around the world, most of whom have never met face-to-face. They’re working very hard to provide FREE content, even with the limitations of coordinating and filesharing over the internet. They’ve already released a big patch and a bunch of fixes and updates since release, and the update they’re working on now is huge. Read the god damned patch notes, it’ll take 10 minutes. If you’re such an entitled and unappreciative ass that you’re calling TB lazy for not appealing to every one of your small needs, you can uninstall the game and piss off. No one’s gonna miss your -10 and 20 k/d ratios and team killing anyway. I bet you don’t even lift.

  • As a preemptive interjection before this gets bad, please remember to keep the conversation civil and within the forum rules.

    Thanks!

  • I’m going to agree with Oy, but in a bit more civil tone. I’m not sure where you get that TB is a bad dev team. They’re pretty awesome imo. If you don’t like their game, don’t play it. Don’t be such a Negative Nancy.

    U lift brah? 8-)

Torn Banner lazy and didn’t wanna fix this.

After a long nap, we actually extensively tested this in the build before release, and unanimously found that the game was not nearly as fun when attacks played out like this.

His is why fans aren’t devs. Its a good thing that they don listen to us most of the time as if they did the game will be ruined and you would still be complaining as well as everybody else. And torn banner would get blamed for listening to you.

No sarcasm in there I assure you.

Whoa. It’s a perfectly reasonable question, Captain Wanker. No need for your petty remarks.

Well, why? Sure, it’s not a big deal in a duel server because nobody else is around to feel your wrath, but what about it made the game less enjoyable? In my opinion, the current build allows us to seemingly cut through armor like it’s butter making it easy for RMB spammers to tk everyone in the vicinity. I’ve completely given up “tanking” on pub servers because of how awful the experience is. If weapons would ‘rebound’ or responded like they do when hitting inanimate objects there wouldn’t be as much spamming. Also, adding to the feeling of actually ‘chopping’ someone down. There seems to be a lot of “selective realism” in some areas, and lack of realism in others. I’m not even going to get started or throw out any examples because it seems the fanboys are already making an appearance.

IMO it should go like this…

LMB : Left horizontal swing! Whoa! Doesn’t that make sense?
RMB: Right horizontal swing! Whoa! Again, I might be onto something here!
    MW: poke/overhead
    anything else: block

Your weapon responds realistically! Of course MAA wear little armor, so they will be sliced in half as they should be along with the gnats or archers as some of you may call them.

Makes sense I guess, but should take some practice for me. I’m not sure how comfortable I feel about bending over and exposing the back of my neck to enemies though…

    Crouching Vanguard, Leaping Hit Detection!

Man I’d watch the shit out of that movie, it’s a mix of Crouching Tiger and Braveheart.

  • @ubersturmfuhrer:

Here’s a bit of your own advice. Now, run along little fanboy there’s plenty more schlongs to ride out there.

    Run along, you little douchebag.

The guy had a very valid point, if you ask me. No, you dont have to reply that you didnt ask me, its just a figure of speech.

Curious question, why are people so hellbent on fighting on the forums? Its a shitton funnier to fight in game. Theres swords and such. I thought the game was for fighting and the forums for debating. This community just keeps confusing me….

  • It’s not this community. I think it’s the reminder of the evolution that’s left in us. It’s very sad so few people can overcome it when it comes to discussing facts and possible solutions in a video game. Since no one is stronger than the other (everyone is behind the computer) it’s the actual fact what should matter the most (as you can’t relay on anything else), but it often degrades to who’ll push his opinion on the top of the food chain… In the battle of opinions there can be no victor.

I apologize, but I have temper/pride issues. I can not stand being insulted.
