    Can you fix the Error 500 while you’re at it? :P

    Some kind of script problem which falls over when under heavy load apparently.

    Not without user access on the box :)
    A couple of lessons for scaling PHP applications:

    1. opcode caching is huge (go get APC, it’s out of the box)
    2. don’t make dynamic what should be static. If you have a back end interface for editing articles, have it spit out the information into a static html file instead of running the script each and every time your main page loads
    3. split load into multiple systems. multiple DB read servers vs fewer DB write servers and replication between the two.
