Quarterstaff is completely wrong

Grip is completely off in your game.

There are different grips, quarterstaff in Chiv looks more like this guy on the right.

  • I prefer the spread-handed version as it is now tbh.

  • I love it just the way it is right now, it’s one of my favorite weapons already :D

That is an Eastern style grip though. Read/look through the movements and manuscripts from Europe and “staffs” mostly had an off center grip

  • There is no one single way to use a weapon correctly. Just as there are countless different schools of sword use that do everything slightly different, so too are there different schools of thought in the use of the staff. Some prefer to hold near the end so they have more leverage and reach; some prefer to hold near the center so they can attack more swiftly thanks to the reduced rotational inertia; some do both depending on the situation.

Believing that there is one single “right” way to use such a basic and prolific weapon as a quarterstaff is simply delusional.

  • I think the devs probably thought it would be too similar to a polearm when held like in the video, and wanted to make it feel unique instead.

Alright, but if we could press 1 with the Quarterstaff out and switch styles, that would reflect that versatility of the weapon and make this a good point. As it stands, they just picked something that most didn’t expect to see from a staff.

Same could be said for the polearms, especially the polehammer and halberd. Infact, most halberds were not as long as they are in game. They were usually a little bit taller than a man.
