'Update Required' But Won't Download

Hey guys,
As the title suggests, Steam is listing ‘update required’ next to the game’s entry in the ‘library’ tab, yet when I launch the game, and the update window appears, the game says it is launching, and no updating actually occurs.
When I try to verify the integrity, it either pauses on 0% and never moves, or hits 100% immediately.
Are there any other options?
