The opposite of defend the king.

  • @soni2295:

    @Slaughtervomit:

Make the worst player on the team become the princess?

    then he would just leave.

Same rules as in defend the king then. In this case, the second worst player is spawned as the princess.

thats a bit better but what if a sudden rage quit happens?
instead of a princess why not a prince, a emissary or a duke or something, it makes it less shameful.

  • Might have to make this more of an escort thing with a random players spawning as queen until they die, than the best players spawning as them. You would have to escape imprisonment with the defends being the ones trying to kill/prevent the escortee from the goal. It’s like a living person being a cart that needs to be escorted.

  • I like this idea! :jlaff:

  • Do we get to marry the princess if we win ?

  • Randomly-selected VIP is better, but I can only see this working if the VIP has an active role in escaping in the first place, otherwise they’re just sitting there for potentially an entire match as people try to free them.

If it’s purely an escort gametype, the priority will be forming shieldwalls/meatshields to ward off projectiles and that’s not exactly fun for the defenders.

Perhaps the VIP is in a carriage and the attackers have to damage it enough that it breaks down and the VIP must proceed on foot at a slower pace. This can be accomplished by a bot on a preset path methinks, because again, boring for the person playing VIP unless they can actively participate.

  • i like the idea of escorting a queen some where!

or the rescue one and let the princess player attack (try to escape) but is only allowed to punch and if they die they just respawn back in their imprisonment area.

I escort the queen back to my quarters. I win.

LOL I have image of Royalty woman(Queen/Princess) punching a knight to death xD

    That would be DAMNED hilarious!

  • I have visions of a TO objective involving a forest ambush; protect the agathan queen inside her cart against waves of mason attackers charging down through the surrounding woodland. Further leading onto something else if the queen is kept safe 8-)

  • It could be prone to rage quitters though. Plus, because they’re not actually able to DO anything, there’s no reason for them to hang around. With “Defend the King”, the player can still actually attack and has a huge amount of health. With “escort the princess”, the princess would not be able to fight, would have low health, and would in general be useless.

Cool idea, but I can’t see players actually sticking around. This could quickly clear out a server if subsequent princesses also left.

I do think the general concept of “Escort … something” is a good idea. Perhaps just make a bot or something, that needs to be protected along a certain route. Or maybe even have several possible routes. Something similar to “push the cart” except where the “cart” (or bot princess/important person) takes damage, and can be stopped in that way.

  • Maybe it could work if the princess were a bot the can walk slowly alone but can be draged if you press the action button. The player could take her hand and then has to use a one-hander.

  • Extremely interesting idea with some pythonesque overtones. There is no point in suggesting emissary or diplomat or a spy so that it is less humiliating because the game allows to humiliate the player anyway (laughing after killing enemy, taunting after the same, corpse humping, head golf,…).

    Rescue princess mode:

    Phase 1:
Team A defends a prison (spawn point 1) with the aforementioned princess.
Team B attacks the prison and has to conquer in a set timelimit.

    Phase 2:
    The spawnpoints switch.
Team B escorts the princess to their original spawn point (2).
Team A tries to keep the princess from escaping by defending the spawn point (2).

    The princess mechanics:

    1. At the end of Phase 1, the player with the worst K/D ration (in order to prevent newcomers to become a princess) becomes the princess.
    2. The princess has life, speed and armor of an archer and is armed with dagger or butterknife (tier 1 or 2 daggers from archer weapon pool)
    3. When killed, the princess is respawned back in the prison and has to go all the way again.

    other possibilities:

    • The princess is immortal but gets paralysed after being hit for a few secs (which is not much fun for its player).
    • The princess can die only once (pretty much like the king) but since Team B needs to rescue her for some unfathomable reason and Team A wants her in prison for some othe unfathomable reason, the death of the princess results in a tie because both teams screwed up.
    • The princess is not a player but essentially an object (you know… like a real life woman) and the mode is just “capture the flag”. A player punches the princess in the face (only fists, anything else misses or something) and gets to carry her over his shoulder (he may or may not be able to use 1-handed weapons and is slowed down to knight speed).
    • Like the variant above: not “capture the princess” but “capture all women” - both teams have a pool of 5 women and victory conditions are to get all 10 (which means the other team has 0).
