Re: BUG: Pop noise, then no sound

  • Same thing happens for me in certain servers. It sucks playing without sound.

  • Developer

I’ve been trying to figure this occasional all sound stops until client restarts issue, and I can now repro it on my box. I never use in game voice (defaulted to ‘G’) when I accidentally press it, my sound drops out, but only when using a certain firewire sound solution.

Basically on my rig I have my normal on board sound chip, a firewire sound board, and simulated USB surround sound headphones. When using the board, in game voice shuts down the sound. My current workarounds are to not use voice (rebound it far away from accidental keypress) or disabling alternative sound outputs in my windows sound options.

If you have this issue, I’d love to know your audio setups and whether or not the voice chat button is whats dropping the sound engine out for you. I’m beginning to think this rare bug is hardware specific.

  • So this is only related to voice chat? Not addressing when VO’s randomly cutout/don’t play, correct?

  • Developer

I believe randomly cutout vo/wont work is part spam prevention and part tied into falling code where falling screams cut in and all other vo is impossible, so deviations in landscape are halting vo. Im talking about client restart to fix sound dropping out issue. Very rare, i rem 2 posts regarding it…
