Shields need some tweaking



  • Shields share the same stats!?
    Despite there differences in shapes&sizes, Strengths&weakness.
    Are not so different at all.

    Buckler Shields negation 4.65
    Heater Shields negation 4.65
    Kite Shields negation 4.64
    Tower Shields negation 5
    All but 1 share the same status…

    Tower Shields been modified2 its size&description.
    Why not modify the other Shields2 its proper Description.
    If ur going 2change 1Shield, why not the rest?

    in windup 0.35
    in release 0.3
    &in recover 0.4

    Again, why no differences?
    The ingame stats Dont match the Descriptions.

    Buckler Shieldsize 31%:A small hand-held shield the Buckler offers less protection
    from ranged weapons but ensures the wielder stays agile.

    Heater Shieldsize 52%: A medium-sized metal shield that offers solid protection
    without weighing down the wielder too much.

    Kite Shield **Size 66%: A large shield that offers great protection but weighs
    down the wielder somewhat.

    Tower Shield **size 64%: A massive full length tower shield that offers supreme
    protection but is heavy and may restrict the reaction time of the wielder.

    Its like Having
    The broadsword, Norse Sword, &Falchion do the same amount of Damage.
    Or its like having crossbows, light crossbows, &heavy crossbows Fire&Reload at the same pace.

    Chivalry’s weapons have individual stats that pertain/relate2 them.

    Shouldnt shields be properly portrayed as such too? Stats wise.

  • I agree.

    Though it is worth noting the big difference between shields right now is small shields drop quicker (so you can counterattack faster) and heavy shields drain more stamina when held up. For example, buckler takes .17 seconds to drop, tower shield takes .3 - almost twice as long.

  • Yeah I’d like to see more variation however I really think any kind of increase to the raise or drop time of the kite shield would be really unfair, unless they give the knight the choice to also use the heater shield.

    Knights are slow enough as it is and if your get pinned by an MAA or archer with something really fast like the dagger there’s very little you can do except hope they miss. At least with a weapon you can parry and counter or continue to parry for a longer time because you keep your stamina up but with a shield this isn’t an option.



  • They really need to fix the name on the heater shield, tower shield/heater shield are interchangeable. The ‘heater shield’ in the game is a kite shield or if you want an alternate name to the other kite shield you can call it a jousting shield.

    As the buckler strikes with the edge and not the blunt face, as other shield do, i think it would be much better if the buckler had a better range for shield bash.

    The Buckler is completely inaccurately named though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckler and should be called a “Targe” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Targe, or just “small shield” or “round shield”.

    The Tower shield looks like a Roman Scutum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scutum_(shield).

    There are little differences to not make bigger shields useless and to not make shield bash of the smaller ones too fast.

    In my opinion buckler is taking away too much vision for protection it gives - it’s really easy to bypass the block, especially at close range on high mouse sensitivity. Here is my idea how to make it up; by making buckler an offensive shield. Reducing its size so it isn’t bigger than the Kite Shield, which is ununderstandable. You can also speed up stamina regeneration for smaller shields to make up for the fact they can’t block as long as bigger shields. In exchange bigger shields should block more area and hits before going out of stamina.
