      Pirates are great. They’re pretty weak, and the blunderbuss takes a few hits to kill people but personally I think they’re pretty hilarious. If you’re going to hate on a class so early on, pick samurai

      Many times I wish they would have just stuck with the HL2 engine and really pushed it even farther because it didn’t reach it’s max potential. But there were so many advantages to it even for an older engine.

      There were also numerous disadvantages that made it extremely impractical to carry on with it.

      Yes because older engines can’t utlitize some effects and techniques that newer ones can. It’s not bias, It’s just logic.

      The age of a game doesn’t have much to do with the combat mechanics. The graphics for chiv are decent enough that I don’t care, the core part is the gameplay mechanics. U3 might be somewhat old, but I doubt its the major cause of gameplay problems

      I’ve found that hit detection is much better myself in C:DW as well. Shields are actually viable too now, 'specially if you’re playing a spartan.

      It turns out that out of the 1,227 players playing chivalry atm, ~500 of them are currently playing on simrai servers

      Clearly Raizio’s doing sommit right :D

      I second this, multiplay servers have been giving everyone trouble since launch. Simrai already runs like half of the C:MW servers anyway (and pretty much perfectly at that), may as well hand it over to them for C:DW :D

      Minor bump, Simrai now has dynamic gamebanners that you can use for chivalry (and for the moment, only chivalry)

    • Server query doesn't seem to return correct appid

      As per the title, doing a server query on C:MW servers returns an incorrect appid of 0 with the other information returned (that i’ve checked) being correct. Not a big or particularly important bug, but there it is

      After bit of mucking about talking to server providers I can finally answer my own question and the answer is that there isn’t a UK based provider that is even willing to put the effort into trying to get a functional 64 slot server.

      However, Simrai have been great, they had the test server up and running today. They fully admit that there is more work required but LTS and TDM worked brilliantly; it was amazing how quickly the thing filled up, within five minutes people were queuing up to get on.

      Simrai are a small but quickly expanding server provider based in the Netherlands. Because of their willingness to help make functional 64 slot servers a reality, their excellent service and cheap prices we will be switching all four of our servers and TS over to them ASAP.

      While I love simrai just as much as you do, I was there for the 64 man test after the tick tweak was implemented, and it was still pretty damn laggy, and apparently extremely resource consuming for the server box. It might be possible to convince raizio to sell you a 64 man server (if you asked him nicely, almost certainly), but until the servers get a little bit of optimisation from the dev team, its probably a while off before they’re actually usable (and it might cost you quite a bit due to the resource consumption)

      I would definitely recommend them if anyone was looking for a server host in general (cheap/good support), but I wouldn’t be getting your hopes up for a functional 64 player server

      You’re right, planetus, dubjay, blaine and sophax actually makes 4, either RK members or exceptionally closely associated ex members of RK part of the balance council
