the kicks are kinda broken especially the range, but the real kicker here is why can we get a mechanics change for kick, but we can’t get any other changes? Really would like to see flinch make an epic return. Aimpunch should really be looked into as well, considering they’re so much worse. Archers needed a nerf and one way was removing their flinch, but now they have aimpunch instead which is pretty much worse. You should be able to attack thrrough their arrow hitting you point blank, yet you get knocked back and miss all the time. Happens in melee of course too which is just bad.
Kill those archers? Personally I’ve always looked at it like this: poor class with no shield I might actually play you if I didn’t want to be dodging arrows all day and being a pincushion. That is why you play knight and backshield for days.
Class needs to have a shield so I can get those archers.

Yes, after all the deliberation, we have decided collectively as a community that shields are the answer! please give the vanguard a shield, then the 3 non-archer classes have shield, and all will be right with Chivalry. As stated by everyone that’s played this game before, shields are the #1 best way to defend yourself against archers and are a foolproof tactic in blocking arrows.

Exactly, Archers also help alleviate the talent. Having that bit of high unblock-able (Shield Excluded) damage helps growing talent, as well as new players stand a chance in hell with some of these juggernauts.

nerfing archers would not be an end all be all for the class, at least it shouldn’t if done right. There are ways to indirectly nerf archers without crippling their damage entirely. Reducing the damage by some to reduce htk would be good. Increasing health regeneration so that melee can at least recover and get back into the fight more quickly is another. Archers used to have a backstab bonus, removing that was absolutely necessary. Increasing reload time of crossbows, the light crossbow should not reload that fast for what it does, absolutely psychotic decision on torn banner’s part.
And many other things could be done while still maintaining a playable, functional class.
don’t stand a chance against “juggernauts”. Then stay away from them, or use a claymore. Do what I do, I know the higher level players, and if I don’t i can see by the way they move if they know what they’re doing or not. Attack them when they’re vulnerable or just stay away. Use your teammates as fodder to kill them. Keep to those you can fight, or go to low rank servers. Above that, experienced players SHOULD be killing you. That’s how games work. That’s how life works. You don’t beat a grandmaster at chess without learning the game and practice, and you shouldn’t expect to
lol arguments from archers that archers aren’t OP. Tune into me streaming TO pubs one day. No, I do not claim to be the best player in the world, nowhere near it. Maybe not even good, period. Every single time I play archer, I sicken myself. I will get #1-#3 every time damn near, at least near the top. Maul knights, zweis be damned I will top the board with a longbow and a shortsword. Can fucking talk to everyone and maybe eat a sandwhich while shooting people and laughing at their attempts to kill me.
Melee sucks for archers? are you lit? I can probably top the scoreboard of a pub with archer shortsword alone, no use of bow.
Archers are balanced? Tell me how that is when they are the only class that there was a server limit placed upon them because this was the solution rather than nerfing them? Tell me you were around before this existed and see people picking as many archers as they want per team. What you get is a team full of 50-100 percent archers, and no that is not an exaggeration. That is what happens.
2-3 + shots landed is too much to ask of the ez mode archer class? Please. They have a role and it should be supportive, not dominating and virtually unkillable by melee classes.
situational awareness? shields, smoke. Please. After 4000+ hours in this game, i’ve learned one thing. NONE of that shit matters when you’re talking about archers. Every new player comes to this forum defending archers and their shit is completely stupid and it’s simply defending a class that is loved by many either with or without the understanding of how powerful the class actually is. What I believe is that you are so used to playing on the defending team, and in this case - attacking archers are typically just not as much of a threat. If you’re always defending (which archer mains typically always play), it’s not a fair comparison to make in your mind. Defense allows you to set up, see things coming. Attacking you’re just running into a firing squad.
Furthermore, it doesn’t really matter if you equip shield, smokepots, dodge duck dip dive dodge - doesn’t matter. As archer, all you really have to do is target people fighting, simple as that. There is literally nothing they can do about you shooting at them… NOTHING. They parry, their character stops briefly, free hit. Your teammate parries their attack, free hit. Charge attack from vanguard gets parried, free hit. Oh you have a shield? You have to swing sometime right? Opens your shield wide up. Wearing it passively? Hit the front. Smoke fades, dodges are predicable, and teammates exist for the archer to hide behind.
What else? Do they not do enough damage? The majority of bows for typical attacks landed (chest,head) are doing anywhere from 50%-100% damage to 4/4 classes, including the knight. Knight being the most armored - what weapons do this damage to knight? Gmace, zwei, dubaxe, maul, polehammer, poleaxe. All heavy hitting melee weapons is what it takes to do the damage archers do from an unhittable range (unless of course you are an archer). Archers are only really counterable by other archers. Every other class can counter each other, but archers only can truly say they can counter archers.
realistic? maybe. Is this a game? yes. Should games be balanced? Probably. Are archers balanced? no. Should something be done? yes. How long has this tyranny been going on? 3+ years. When does it need to stop? now.
So what else is there to argue about?

I played DW like last week, and the freaking turncap is way too high for parries and attacks. You move too fast in that game to have a turn cap that big, it’s silly. Feels very clunky to me, and I don’t remember it being that bad before. Trying to parry the whack ass attacks from viking and shield bashes from spartans and shit when you can only turn your mouse at -5mph is like… ehh bad

if you’re running speedtest, run pingtest instead - then you can see if you’re getting packet loss badly. Also, make sure you’re joining a server in your country

yeah man, it’s rough playing weapons that you like but can’t because they’re too slow. I love poleaxe for example, but you get traded for every hit damn near unless like you said you forecast it or the other player is scrub tier. Pretty lame that you can’t play other classes too. I play knight mostly but not because I don’t like the other classes, it’s just the only one that can take the mindless hit trading in pubs. I like maa play, but even with fast 1 handed weapons, all the other person has to do to trade is like windup within .1 or .2 seconds of you and boom trade. Not to mention the slightest bit of ping difference will make the weapon hit before the windup animation is complete. YOu can hit someone during windup and the attack just keeps coming all the way dragged out and shit. Nonsense m8
knights are fine, vanguards, maa, and even archer counter them very hard with the right weapons. The fact that sword of war is used to much is because it’s fast enough and does enough damage to counter all the other classes well. With most other weapons you have to switch to secondary to be effective because of hit trades and the fact that youre missing either range, damage, or speed on the other classes which is detrimental. Take maa for example, if you use a poleaxe against them or bearded axe, poleaxe is too slow and not enough range to counter good maa, vans or archer, you’re missing range and speed. Bearded axe, not really great against anyone because of the range. Warhammer, great weapon but has no range and it’s slow.
people really typically only use swords as knight because of the versatility of every swing, most other weapons you’re only really doing like 1 of the 3 attack types as they’re more specific in how to use them. Swords are just more versatile in all around combat.
But either way, knights are fine. Any good maa or vanguard and even archer can make them look like babies. Vanguards knockback, stam drain, move faster and do a lot of damage. Maa’s are faster, actually can flinch because of 1 handers, have dodge, etc. Archers have attack and movement speed and mostly broken weapons for melee. They all counter.
The biggest problem with archers is that they’ve been buffed to godlike tier. Mercs has changed this a lot, but i’m only talking about vanilla since it’s where pub play is done. My biggest problem with archers is that they do WAY too much damage, especially crossbows. Crossbows were buffed to have so much less reload time, especially light crossbow and that’s why everyone uses it competitively. It has way too fast of a reload, way too little drop, lots of speed, and it’s simply just broken.
For the majority of the bows, it does like half damage to knights (the most heavily armored class). So playing in pubs with anything but knight becomes even more of a drag when you get one shot by every archer, or taken to a point where you’re useless in combat from 1 arrow/bolt. Knights are already pretty useless after 1 shot, and vans, maa are pretty much completely useless after getting shot once.
The other issue is the melee, they have such stong ranged damage and control, you literally can’t counter them at range with anything but an archer obviously. But then when you get close to them, they’re like one of the strongest melee classes in the game. Why? Because their attack speed is so damn fast, their footwork is so damn fast, without doing a good feint against a good archer, they will just spam/riposte and facehug you to death every time. Take into account that reading feints is the same as any other class and is done by archers too, their melee is just way too strong for how much they do in ranged.
Another problem is if you do get hit by an archer, you have to try and heal for like a whole minute or more to be able to fight again, what with weapons 1 shotting you after taking 1 arrow and all. What exactly are you supposed to do?
Then shields are useless, any competent or even I see brand new archers just tearing everyone apart, shield or not. It doesn’t require enough skill to play at low levels. Anyone can just hop into the game at level 20 or less and top scoreboards simply because theyre an archer.
Flinch being removed - aimpunch is in it’s place. It’s nice getting close to an archer with a 1 hit to kill archer weapon, get hit by an arrow and be like yes i can still attack and 1 shot them… but then you don’t land your strike because they knocked you back a foot or two with the aimpunch which was just the distance you needed to complete the kill swing. Then they switch weapons and you die because they can weapon switch and flinch before you can combo or attack again (that’s if their team melee hasn’t gibbed you already. You can’t even get close to archers in pubs without dying because they’ll just run away and their team will surround you and gang bang. There’s literally almost no way to counter semi competent fps players as melee class.
so reload speed is a big thing, damage from the bows, attack speed and damage of melee, as well as footwork speed - and then aimpunch bullshit. I get that they shouldn’t be completely useless, but every other class besides archers have had to deal with archers being overpowered for like 3 years now. and yes, i do believe they are overpowered. They have a 4 count limit on public TO servers, and they still dominate. Lets all remember that archers are the only class in the game that has to be limited because of them being such a complete nuisance. Why would a class be limited if they weren’t overpowered? Another band-aid fix but they really should be nerfed.
I agree with more weapons 1 shotting them too, pretty much every 2 handed weapon, except qstaff. And for 1 handers warhammer should 1 shot with overhead.
It’s so sad though because TB is literally not going to patch or fix or balance anything now because they gave up and all we get are skins now. I heard they don’t want to kill their current playerbase, but that’s the problem. The playerbase has become so used to shitty balance now and it’s really getting tiresome trying to have some good clean medieval combat and just getting shot and crippled by archers, and hit trades of course.

Not happening for me. I have absolutely no problem interrupting vanguard sprints and my own sprints when trying to 2012 dance get interrupted all the time.
seems like you interrupt it but they can still just sprint out of it. Maybe it’s their super acceleration rocket packs

but you do unlock helm colors so there’s that, but all that does is make archers shoot you more often and melee gang up on you in great numbers.
