Soma is the carisoprodol tablets that are available in the strengths of 250 mg and 350mg. Carisoprodol is said to be a muscle relaxant in white color having a crystalline powder form and a mild, characteristic odor. Other inactive ingredients in the soma pills are magnesium stearate, alginic acid, starch, potassium sorbate, and tribasic calcium phosphate.
The medication is a short-acting muscle relaxant that is only approved for two to three weeks of use. The therapeutic effects of soma generally start after half an hour and last for up to six hours for an average adult.
Soma got approved for medical use in the United States in 1959 and became available as both generic and brand medication. It is one of the most prescribed muscle relaxants placed under the schedule-IV of the Controlled Substance Act.
