Agreed. Torn Banner has done a great job creating an awesome game. It’s still fairly new, so give it time to be tweaked.

I think the game is amazing too. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; I’ havn’t had this much fun with a game since CounterStrike, which is still one of the most popular online multiplayer games. I’ve recommended several friends to buy it, and played it for 130-ish hours untill the update came out. Sure, there were some bugs at first, but they didn’t really bother me.
Ever since the update I feel the game has been ruined. Due to certain changes players have adapted their playing styles. Whereas I played vanguard with a claymore ever since my first installation, I’m now forced to play knight (for the extra armor) with a crappy but fast short sword to actually survive long enough. Whereas before the update I ended first or second 90% of the time.
Since the update everyone just chooses daggers or short swords, runs up and basicly facehugs you while stabbing like an idiot. It’s just not realistic anymore. Before the update there were actual swordfights with kicks etc. Now it’s just wildly spamming away.
My thought is that it’s the blocking and kicking that’s the problem. I noticed after the update I couldn’t play defensively anymore. And kicking seemed to be too slow to prove effective against people who come in too close. The only way to survive now is to play offensive like a facehugger, but I’m missing the feeling of satisfaction I got from actual combat where you had to EARN a kill.
I feel Torn Banner could have asked more for the game, and I would have gladly paid it. That extra income could have paid for a larger team to support developement. Although I’m guessing they’re doing rather well since the launch :)

Apart from that one server browser bug - when servers didn’t show up, or only highpinged ones - I really havn’t noticed that many bugs. Oh yeah, there’s the one where you move in one direction, or get stuck in the floor, but that’s about it.

I was playing with all shields and blocking ability is fine. Give to some time to adjust yourself to the changes and disable the crosshair as sometimes it can confuse you as you have to block MORE not LESS and the crosshair is fooling you that you’ve your shield centered when you should have your shield more to the left/up/right.
That’s what I thought at first too, but after playing about 10 maps I can say it doesn’t feel like there’s anything to get used too.It just feels broken. I’m even past the stage where it was frustrating. Now it’s just sad. Especially since I was enjoying myself so much before the patch. Don’t think I ever had that much fun playing a game since the CounterStrike days.
I just don’t think it’s for me anymore. Feels too random, especially against people who don’t keep their distance. It’s just not realisticly believeable anymore either…
I don’t play with shields. Always play with the same setup; vanguard with two-handed claymore.
On the up side… I’ve had 115 hours of fun. Perhaps it’s just time to move on.
Yes, parrying has become a pain in the ass since the patch for me as well - Is there any changes in the patch notes that might explain this? It seems most noticeable when defending against longer one-handed weapons like the Morning Star and Dane Axe - I laugh when 3 consecutive swings go right through my parry. Luckily I haven’t seen much difference with shield blocking.
Also, Archer is looking pretty sweet right about now, eh?
I’d like to know too. And the reason behind it.
And no, I hate archers myself, and wouldn’t wanna be caught dead playing as one. Same goes for MAA ;-) I considered my vanguard with the same setup each game “my avatar” in chivalry.

As a vanguard wielding a claymore, I’ve got to agree. Since the update I can’t seem to block anything, and especially against archerst and MAA wielding daggers and small swords, I might aswell not bother fighting back. Vanguard attacks and even kicks are just too slow, even though I use the claymore, which before the update was a great alround weapon.
Frankly if nothing changes I’ll be giving up Chivalry too. Perhaps it’s for the best, since I’ve been playing it more than I’d like to admit :D
I’m not sure what exactly changed. Perhaps some sort of blocking hitzone, but ever since the update I’ve been getting my ass kicked badly, whereas before the update in 85% of the games I ended first as vanguard (always with claymore). The only class I play really.
Now, I barely make it half way up the ladder and get my ass kicked by people (newbies, quite frankly) who just run up against me and spam…
I just can’t seem to properly block anyone. Especially people who come in close. They just run up against me like retards and then keep spamming their faster weapon. Especially archer and MAA are just unbeatable if they get in too close. They just use their fastest, weakest daggers, but the damage doesn’t matter, because they’ll continue stabbing you without giving you a chance to rebuff. And kicking is out of the question too, because that just takes too long now.
I’m sorry. Before the update this was the only game I played the last few months, and I loved it. But now it’s just not the same, and the last few games I’ve had no fun at all. In my eyes it seems like a good game has been ruined.
There are some good updates (loving the new alternate attacks), and I like the new maps, but please fix the blocking thing. Now it’s just random, where previously it felt like a fight actually required skill and timing to do well in the game.
Got to agree here. The game is so much more fun with actual fights between vanguards and knights, then those pesky MAA vultures come warping around you, and archers cowardly pick you off from a distance.
Archers especially have the annoying ability to drasticly change the game style. What starts of as a nice, fun game can easily turn into a slow paced game of hiding and dodging from cover to cover… Something really needs to be done.

Strong perhaps is a poorly chosen word. To me it’s more that they are too fast and unblockable.
Not sure what’s changed, but usually I’m always on top of the list, and today I got my ass kicked by archers and MAA so bad I considered uninstalling the game… That’s just how frustrating it can get.
Personally I only actually enjoy fighting knights and vanguards. Archers are just pesky cowards, and MAA annoying vultures. But hey, to each their own.

Weird. Hillside is one of my favorites. But I have to agree with citadel. It’s nearly impossible as agatha unless you have an unbalanced team when it comes to skill levels. And I already hate archers on every other map… on citadel it’s éven worse. So I just leave whenever it pops up. I like the level design though. Looks really cool, and I love the hellish environment ;-) Just not so fun to play.

No, they’re perfect as is. Not too strong, not too weak. Personally I wouldn’t mind at all if the game consisted out of only vanguards and knights. The other two classes just piss me off and appear “lame” in my eyes, because they’re so fast :-)
I prefer good vanguard/knight duels. Favorite parts of the game. Archers and MAA either pick you off from a distance which is frustrating, or suddenly show up and stab you lightning fast in the back and spoil the fight you were in, which is basicly just as annoying. Havn’t met many players who play “honorably” in my eyes.

I have been votekicked a couple of times, but I wouldn’t know if that also results in a permanent ban? I do end up first or second place more often than not, so that causes some resentment and people just vote ‘yes’ for the hell of it.

As you can see there are no servers with enough people playing below 100 ping… :/

Personally I’m glad it’s not possible for clans to play together - that well - on publics. There’s nothing more frustrating than a team of skilled players actually playing well together and completely raping the other team that consists mainly out of people new to the game or people who prefer playing alone. Leave it as is. If you want to play together, get your own server and add a password, or play against another clan. Publics are what they always have and always should be.
Not enough low ping servers
Untill recently I could always play on servers with around 40-50ping, which was great. Lately though I can only find like 3 or 4 servers with a ping below 120-150, and then most of them are password protected…
What gives? I know Chivalry has recently become alot more popular, but surely that shouldn’t affect individual servers?
The fault isn’t on my end since when I do go ingame on a low ping server my ping is always around 40.
I live in Belgium by the way.

Ow yes, I’d love this. I was suggesting this and really got excited.
I know zombie mobies, games and mods are a bit outdone these days, but I think in this game it would be something entirely different, and could be done fairly easily I’m thinking.
What would appeal to me most would be a co-op mode or multiplayer with only one team and hundreds of medieval zombie pesants ánd knights/vanguards etc.
The story would obviously be centered around the black plague, and the recent dead from a huge Mason vs Agatha battle would come back to life on the battlefield, forcing the living Mason ánd Agatha soldiers back into the fortress to work together. Sort of like Army of Darkness :)
The undead horde would then besiege the castle (not just mindless zombies, but more army of darkness style) with ladders and battering rams etc and it’s the livings task to survive long enough for reinforcements to arrive or something like that.
Man… I’d have so much fun with that… standing on the walls as archers, vanguards and knights along side you for when the ladders reach the walls. Others behind the gate in a shield wall forcing the zombies who battered down the gate into a bottleneck and cutting them down. Shooting catapults from behind the walls, spilling hot tar on zombies below.
Would be so impressive in this game. Especially if it could manage large numbers of undead :)

You should really get some concept art before you pitch a game. Just writing down some classes etc really doesn’t tell a story. People need to be interested first, and your presentation hardly inspires enthousiasm. Also, the English is rather bad.
If you’re serious about getting your game made;
- look for a concept artist who’s willing to put in the time, this will make it easier to get people willing to be involved
- look for a few smaller, good game studios and ask for developement prices
- perhaps create a presentation video with concept art and storyline etc and create a kickstarter project. if people like what they see, they’ll fund it.
RE: Mouse acceleration
Nothing? Surely this isn’t such an odd question. Nearly every game has the option to turn mouse acceleration off. I always play with high sensitivities :(

Yeah my bad. I thought it was the battlecry that gave you the speed up attack as vanguard. Turns out you just have to run for a while ;-) Sorry about that.
I get this quite often. At some point - mostly after being attacked by enemies I think - the catapult will hover in the air.
If you go to where the catapult should be standing you can still activate it and you hit an invisible wall, as if it’s still there. If you activate it suddenly you get carried up into the air to where the catapult is on my screenshot, looking down on the map. Really weird :)
Makes the catapult unusable too.
RE: Archer backstab animations
Seems to me like this goes against the free playing style of chivalry and belongs more in singleplayer games like assassins creed or batman. I can imagine an archer being stuck in a pre-programmed animation and getting himself chopped to bits by other enemies. Even a second is a long time in chivalry :)
