I’d rather pour rat urine onto my eyeballs than support Chivalry 2.

    • RE: Chivalry: Medieval Warfare Patch 26

Wow, this patch is fucking amazing. I can actually parry alt swings, look down overheads ARE DELAYED!! 180 attacks don’t go through parry. Ridiculously abused weapons are shitter, and I couldn’t be happier. This is a start to something incredibly beautiful.

      @Dr.Nick:

Your Avian Maul is bad and you should feel bad for putting it in.

Other than that the new content was sorely needed so thank you for finally adding some stuff!

But the Avian Maul is the only thing I DID like. It’s gonna be the only purchase besides the actual game I’ve ever made to TBS. Like, the theory behind its design is perfect, if way too heavy looking for real life. Also the spike should be straight, not curved, but it’s a sacrifice they made so it looked like a beak.

    • RE: Australian Comp scene: Is it a thing?

Ours is the most players per country (or whatever the word for it is). Australia is very active in this game. However we’ll never survive if each patch we get thrown to the dogs, I can see veteran after veteran give up because of this shitty meta TBS created, and all the bugs and balance decisions. The only reason America has any sort of pro scene, is because they have a lot more losers than us (we’re trying our best to copy your dumb fatness).

So since the only hope anyone has left anymore is Deadliest Warrior, let’s just hope we get more than 30 hours of CASUAL FUN WEEEEEE in before we switch to a better game.

We’ve had a $200 open 5v5 tournament open, but wasn’t enough 5v5 teams to sign up, namely due to lack of advertising (reddit not keeping us on top and forums being barren of intelligence or popularity). We’ve had a 1v1 tournament from CGs last season, where some people exploited. Season two is MAA wars, and scrims are Brandistock, Norse MAA, Warbow. We have a serious community trying hard to work, but this game man… this fucking game. It just want people to buy the game, not play it.

    • RE: Feedback from your community, to TBS

I suggest different payment option like subscription means they get paid for people playing NOW rather than buying, perhaps shifting their emphasis to our community instead of ???

shit mechanic (kicks) means (just for you downies out there) that kick has been riddled with bugs since day one and impossible to rely on.

shields were op in and old patch, that’s why they introduced kicks stunning shield holders for yonks. How can you not know this?

The ability to accelerate and decelerate overheads, or drag stabs. Why, please, why. Stop. Knight is the only balanced class in the game currently, while everyone else are godlike supermen jedi.
Not everyone has a grasp on the meta, it’s ok.

    • Feedback from your community, to TBS

Dear people over at Torn Banner Studios (not including community managers or forum managers, since I believe they are largely clueless puppies)

DISCLAIMER: This post is negatively infused because no one in their right mind could sugar coat this. I’m giving you necessary information, negativity is merely flavour.

OPENER: I’m gonna bullet point suggestions and feedback in what I believe to be the most critical areas needing attention.

MONEY: TBS makes money from new purchases. This leaves their attention to new players instead of keeping people coming. I suggest different payment option like subscription and more non-stat related purchases so that the COMMUNITY can support you, not new purchases. Maybe then you won’t leave us who contribute EVERYTHING to your advertising, and everything to your current playerbase to the dogs. Allowing you to actually have people playing your servers AT ALL, unlike War Of the Roses.

It’s so obvious you’re leaving us to the fucking dogs because we don’t make you money. So give us attention, and we’ll give you money. Stop trying to get new purchases.

BALANCE: You are, by far, completely incapable of making logical decisions as far as balance is concerned. Every change makes me cringe. Your decision to empower a shit mechanic (kicks) to fix shields being op made no sense, your AWFUL knockback changes is what did shield users in. You buffed Vanguards in so many ways for no, apparent, reason, whatsoever. You created dodge in the first place, which is a very difficult mechanic to balance, made obvious by how overpowered MAA are and your brainless approach to nerfing it. You changed the power of Feint as if Parry was a perfect mechanic (hint: IT IS NOT). You get rid of combo feints for DEFENSE, and let them be offensive without tweaking parry, again. I DON’T UNDERSTAND. Your continual ignorance in NOT nerfing the Norse sword, Warbow, and Claymore/Spears. The existence of Halberd family overhead tracers in the handle. The ability to accelerate and decelerate overheads, or drag stabs. Why, please, why. Stop. Knight is the only balanced class in the game currently, while everyone else are godlike supermen jedi.

Please, for the love of anything even remotely holy, hire someone competent to help you balance, and then LISTEN TO HIM!

BUGS: Bugs are something I don’t mind, you cannot help their existance man, I understand. But why do you take so long to fix them? I can’t even imagine an answer to this at the moment.

IN CLOSING: I love this game, its potential to become a really good spectator e-sport, a really good time, and great innovation. I’m really looking to change your direction with this game. As it is, its spiralling into the bin, leaving a platform for other companies to milk. I want you to milk us, not them. Dominate this genre before it’s too late, stop making bad decisions, and actually give back to the community for once.

Peace, from your AUS veteran player, who has contributed to your community since release, and knows the history and evolution of the community and game since release

    • RE: Third Person.

Side 3rd person view may give an advantage, but centered 3rd person is easily the most balanced setup, well better than 1st in almost every way. If you could ban side view and allow centered 3rd you’ve got a proper tournament setup. Blame TBS.

    • RE: Chivalry is actually better now.

      @Griefa:

Upon reading the patch notes I was is disgust – almost threw up on my monitor. I took a needed break for playing 30+ hours a week with the intentions of returning and recreating the initial hilarity and fun that Chivalry provided for me. When I read the CU1 Patch 2 notes, my excitement to return was met with huge disappointment. How could the developers change the fundamentals of our great game so late into its lifespan? Im sure most veterans here asked the same question. I raged.

And then I actually played the game. I died a lot. My 5 or 6:1 KDR had reverted to maybe a 1:3. I was playing by the old rules. I could have easily quit and said this game sucks, but I was intrigued to learn it – to see if it really was a bullshit patch that ruined the game.

Ive concluded that it isn’t. Chivalry is actually better now.

I loved the old game, but I love this one, too. It has most of the old mechanics, and more. Stamina is actually a stat that people care about now, which adds a skill element as it needs to be managed. Feints and combo feints still work which makes me happy as a “no skill feinting noob.” Kicks now are versatile and more useful now (and deadly).

After playing for a couple weeks I can say that I steamroll people even more than previously. Im not sure why, exactly. I know that Im less susceptible to feints now, due to lesser emphasis on the “who opens up on their attack first wins mentality” of the previous patch. As a result, my defense and survivability has increased allowing me to get that last hit in on people. I also find that my own feints are even more effective. People apparently stopped feinting at some point, and the community as a whole falls for them just as much as originally. The lack of hit trading into combos and the emphasis on stamina conservation has made the game more about being precise with attacks (player skill) and less about using armor and speed (stats) to win encounters. In general, I feel like the combat is more fluid now and more enjoyable. It’s also more balanced now.

Except for the weapons. Yeah that weapons are all sorts of fucked up:

Spear and Brandi are wtf mode right now. How to you swing a fork faster than a dagger?

Longsword and SoW both were nerfed for some reason, which I don’t understand. They were popular weapons but no more or less viable than any other weapon in the hands of a pro. I could match or beat any pro SoW user with a GM or Maul pre patch. There were some godly SoW players like Bada and others who dominated everyone with the weapon, but their skill came from using the weapon and mastering its timing over many hours. Those players could have used any weapon as effective.

Axe overheads are too slow now. Dane axe is no longer viable which makes me really sad. Unnecessary changes IMO.

A lot of claymore complaints but I cant weigh in as Ive only learned recently of its ridiculousness.

I will state that Im very happy that the bad weapons were made more viable. Flails, Quarter Staff, and Poleaxe seem much better thank god.

Overall though, Im happy. Weapons need some adjustments, but I feel that most of the outrage is simply from those who havent actually taken the time to check out the new changes and play with them for some time. I do disagree with the idea of changing a games fundamentals so late, but the changes were for the better and now the game is being played as it was originally intended to by the developers, which is always a good thing. Give the new patch a chance, it’s not bad!

I apologize for the lack of editing, time to go back to work!

      Glenn

Dude, I agree their DIRECTION is good, in the end, say… oh at this rate, 10 years we’ll have a balanced game maybe, but with these meganerfs and mega buffs, we’ll be playing a silly game for a long time.
      I have 3 examples:
1: Dodge not only had all its stamina exploits and super dodge exploit removed, but they nerfed attacking while dodging at all, dodging when shield/parry/jump is in recovery, dodge speed… I mean I can only dodge at really specific times now, and not all of them make sense. Double nerf resulting in bugs (can’t dodge in recovery) and poor balance.

2: Out of stamina stun. Not only did they remove all the exploits when in a kick stun or out of stamina stun, but they decided you should be stunned for a billion years, reducing the need to expect a stun in order to capitalize on it. This meant in a duel you actually had to pay attention to shit, and in a team game is what, pretty much a free hit anyways, who cares? Double nerf resulting in poor balance.

3: Spears. Not only did you change emphasis from combo dodge into panic parries (buffing the spear immensly) but you ALSO decided to make them as fast as light. Double nerf resulting in terrible balance.

I also only touched on double nerfs/buffs.

You got a lot of work ahead of you TB.
