    • What are your current plans for how feinting will work in the game?

      I only have 14 hours in the game so I can’t say how well feints work out in this game right now, but I was wondering what kind of direction you guys are going in. Here are 3 possibilities that come to mind.

      1. Feints are not meant to be readable. If they are, then they are from a distance. The way feints would work here is that players would not try to react or predict but instead they would use things like abilities and footwork to fight for initiative or to at least stay at a range where it is readable.

      2. Feints are meant to be readable. While you can do certain things to have an advantage in terms of distance and initiative, feints are difficult to read but still within possibility.

      3. Feints are not meant to be readable. There would be limited ways of gaining an advantage through distance and initiative but prediction would play a huge role.

      These are just meant to be examples. Personally I would like feints to be readable or there should be mechanical ways of countering them if they’re not. It’s hard to comment about how feints are now since animations will be improved and things could change. I would also like to know what other testers think about feinting right now and how feinting should work.

    • RE: Turncap feedback/discussion

      I think that the two most important things are that it feels clunky and it reduces the skill in team play. Yes, I come from Chivalry but it seems very unlikely that someone playing Mirage for the first time would feel the turn cap to be natural. People want to have a good amount of control over their swings especially if they’re coming from an FPS background. The turn cap can still be greatly increased without causing any issues especially now that you can’t back swing.

      While Mirage is a different game and more of team play can come from intelligent usage of abilities, switching and fake switching is a core part of a melee team fight in a game like this. It is very hard to do any convincing switches right now and if you try you risk a high chance of missing with the turn cap. Fake target switching seems to be impossible.

    • RE: MERCS Asking YOU for opinions on current build!

      @Sir:

      "MAA isn’t the best class in mercs. "

      It’s very clearly vanguard with knight in 2nd and maa/archer in the ‘who cares’ column although that norse buff recently gifted MAA all around the world with the powers of flinching via the norse master montage maker sword.

      PS: Don’t want dodge in game anymore, want buffed top run speed for long distance running to objectives and flanking + ability to run sideways OR I want my sprint key to use stamina and make me go faster.

      MAA is very powerful right now. Clans have been throwing out double MAA in scrims lately.

      I do agree that removing dodge and giving the MAA a little bit of a speed buff sounds like a good idea. Dodge is a very gimmicky mechanic. I don’t think that it’s OP though when you don’t use dodge out of parry. Maybe a change like this would be too much and we might as well just go off and create another game at this point. If you remove dodge out of parry and put a longer cooldown between dodges then I think that the MAA class will be balanced along with some weapon changes.

    • RE: Drags & Feints

      You can’t compare a simple color change reaction time test to reading feints. I think I have a more accurate reaction time test to determine your feint reading abilities. It would be a square on the screen. There is a countdown from 5 to 0. On 0, the square will either rotate to the right or to the left. If it rotates to the right, then you click. If it rotates to the left, then you don’t. The program would average up your scores from when you click and penalize you for when you clicked when you shouldn’t have.

      There would be problems with this program. For one, when you read a feint you’re looking at more complex movement than a square rotating. Another problem is that it assumes that you’ve perfected the animations. You know exactly when the feint window passes.

      I wonder what kind of results a reaction time test like this would give us. Timing, reading the animation and reaction all play a role in reading feints, but maybe we shouldn’t think of the reaction time in the terms that we’ve been thinking about it. I have about a 180 ms reaction time towards color change and I can read feints okay. The best feint reader I’ve ever seen had a reaction time of 280 ms though, which seems crazy to me.

      @Aurane:

      I think you overestimate the reading skills of most competitive players.

      Most people fall for overhead maul feints. That’s not saying much though because almost no one feints with the maul. If you deal with a person who feints with the maul for a few days you’ll get used to it.

    • RE: Where should I start if I want to mod Chivalry?

      @gregcau:

      tbh I wouldn’t bother, there is very little community interest in modded maps, even the best are barely used. If it is a work of art and gets to be included in the main game that is another matter of course. But TBS barely fix anything in the modded maps (spawn points are a nightmare, some glaring obvious wrong messages displayed at end of objectives, let alone poor balance) so make sure it is right first time.

      I’m not making anything to share really. If I have the ability to mod Chivalry, then I might want to do that later on.

      @Hordy:

      When you want to get familar with the tools, you are be better off with a game that is based on UE3:

      I think that Borderlands 2 might be a good place to start. Thanks a lot!

    • Where should I start if I want to mod Chivalry?

      I’ve looked at a lot of the tutorials but with Chivalry being a small game there’s not enough of them for a person new to modding to just jump in. Since I haven’t done too much with programming I can’t just view the tutorials, play around, and know how to mod Chivalry. I was thinking that maybe I could start with a game like Skyrim. With such a huge game, there will be plenty of tutorials for people new to modding.

      What I want to know is how much of my knowledge in modding Skyrim would help with Chivalry. Do you think that there’s a better game to start with that has almost as many resources for modding as Skryim? If you think there’s a completely different way I can approach modding in Chiv, then please give me an idea.

      And by the way, I’m not looking for something as simple as using the map editor or changing the damage on the Messer. I would say that what I’m trying to do is not too hard, but I’m going to need experience before I can even begin to approach it.

    • RE: Spamming Votes during matches…

      I agree that it is a problem, but there will still be problems with this. If everyone cooperated and votekicked when needed, then this would be a great solution. The problem is most people don’t initiate a votekick. Stopping the only one or two people on the server who actually initiate votekicks for 10 minutes would lead to a lot of laggy players and teamkillers staying on a server.

      Spamming votes is very annoying and affects every single player so the person spamming the votekick is likely to be kicked himself/herself, especially if they’re typing “hax0r” into the chat. I’m pretty sure I was in the game you were talking about if I remember correctly. I can tell you that most of the time these people get votekicked themselves by the 5th or 6th time they do it. While that still is annoying, I think it’s preferable to the new system.
