It’s a fun game, but needs a bit more ranged weapons. We need to completely eliminate the melee element of it to make it really good.
Completely agree. We need to scrap Spartans; add US Marines.
And if you miss you are screwed.
Pretty hard to miss with that thing. Unless you don’t have hands, or the purpose of the crosshair is a profound mystery that continues to elude you.
Also large numbers without shields work.
Exactly. Just have more people on your team. L2P etc. etc.
Yeah, they’re pretty bad.
From my personal experience, it isn’t as big a deal if you stick to the 16/24 player servers, if you really have to use the official ones (btw: this is based on no technical understanding whatsoever - just seems that way to me). Luckily in the EU there are a few decent private servers with a good variety of game modes, but I imagine this problem can get fairly frustrating if those aren’t available to you.
I did ask for opinions
Best to avoid doing that.
What do you think?
Obviously I didn’t fight really good here but I think that is an abuse
While this might not be the intended use of that mechanic, it’s not really abuse and is certainly beatable. I’ve seen that technique, although, to be fair, not very often, and I certainly fell for it the first time. It’s intended to make you panic, and it looks like it was working here. As has been suggested, swap to a secondary and try to avoid playing that defensively.
As you say you know this player, I’d ask to duel him a few times and try out some of the suggestions that others have posted.
I think you’re right - while more variety would obviously be great, I imagine the game would become more difficult to balance if you keep adding more weapons.
Would chivalry retain its same feel using early hand cannons like the Arquebus for archers.
Nah, this isn’t a great idea.
It’s been repeatedly suggested before (here’s one, but there have been others). That thread features quite a few arguments against adding gunpowder weapons, so I wont paste them all here - but personally, I think adding hand-cannons might encroach on the crossbow’s niche. It’s just difficult to see it actually improving the gameplay.
You’re talking about 10% of fractions of a second - maybe a 25-75ms increase in attack speeds, which is about the same advantage as a person with 40 ping would have over a person with 80-100 ping; the advantage is negligible.
Yup, if it’s subtle enough to escape detection, it’s probably not having enough of an effect to ‘ruin’ the game.
Strictly from my own experience, I don’t think hacking is as prevalent as it’s being made out - In the past week of playing I’ve seen one player who was clearly speedhacking, however I’ve seen accusations thrown around in pretty much every match I’ve played.
The #1 reason why I play archer is because I found NO other game that even comes close to what archery should be in a video game. Chivalry is the first game I got in which archery fully depends on player skill… .
I find it really interesting that so many players really enjoy it more than the melee - I’ve always felt that the ranged combat in this game was a bit weak in comparison, more of an afterthought. I know a few reviewers made this point as well, but each to his own I guess.
Sometimes I do wonder if the game wouldn’t have been better without archery.
It wouldn’t be better in the same way that TF2 wouldn’t be better if you removed Spies/Snipers entirely. As with all class-based multiplayer games, it works best when teams are more-or-less balanced, both against each other and within the teams in terms of who’s playing what.
There are quite a few privately run servers with class caps for archers at around 25% per team (in the EU anyway), but they’re getting increasingly hard to get into these days :D.
Every game I play there is a huge number of archers involved, up to and often more than half of an entire team. Playing against this isn’t fun at all.
Personally I find it just as annoying to play with a huge number of archers - I’ve seen a lot of games on hillside where Agatha haven’t been able to get to light the beacon because a third of their team is sniping from spawn.
There have been quite a few threads about this, it’s been an issue for a while. This is a problem with almost all class-based multiplayer games, though; there’s usually an equivalent to having too many spies in tf2, or those snipers camping on the edge of the map in battlefield. Unfortunately, class caps are the only real solution, and TB (iirc) say that they wont have class caps on official servers. They also said that about servers with ping limits, however, so you never know.
Serpentine, move unpredictably, flank, jump, whatever, and hope they’re bad.
Yup. Most of the tactics suggested in these threads and the balance forum wont work against an archer who’s put in some serious time with the class. Just zigzag and pray.
